Pansori, a traditional Korean musical genre, is sometimes compared to American blues music because its subject matter often involves the issues of everyday people. During the Joseon Dynasty, music was strictly reserved for the aristocratic elite. At that time instruments were highly prized items that lower class people could not afford. In Pansori ones whole body is the instrument. The singer produces a unique sound that can be found in no other genre. We had the privilege of sitting in on a practice session.
