Andre Fisher has been imprisoned for ten months for allegedly robbing a taxi driver of 88 dollars at a military entertainment zone frequented by U.S. soldiers and expats. On August 9 at approximately 11:30 p.m. in the Seoul High Court, he finally had his say at the Appeals Hearing. The day’s court docket included two drug smuggling cases and two murders before Fisher was brought in front of three judges. He was sworn in with the help of the court’s English translator and proceeded to maintain his innocence and maintain that he has a spotless criminal record both in Seoul and the U.S. He apologized for panicking at the time of his arrest and then causing damage to a police vehicle.
Fisher’s attorney read into the record that Fisher has paid in full for damages to the police vehicle. Andre Fisher declared at the end of his testimony, “I was just the wrong foreigner in the wrong place at the wrong time.” A Korean interpreter in attendance confirmed that Fisher received a fair hearing. Moments after the hearing, Andre’s sister, Jill, was contacted in America and believes that she will be seeing Andre soon on the outside after the results of this hearing are announced on August 25.
Editor’s Note: 3WM visited Andre Fisher in Prison and the full results of that interview and a summary of Mr Fisher’s case will be published after the results of the August 9 hearing are made public on August 25.
