Busan Daytrippers: Geumjangsan Central Ridge Traverse (Dif.: Moderate)

Date:

Saturday, February 19, 2011 - 09:00

Location:

Event Type:

We have hiked the first half of this route several times going to Seokbulsa via South Gate, always taking the left fork of the ridge-line. That route, of course, affords beautiful views of the cathedral cliffs to the north on the other finger of the ridge where we jealously spied, far off across the valley, other hikers clambering along its jagged peak and having picnics in the natural caves of its face. We always say: "Hey, we should go that way next time." Well... this is next time. This is uncharted territory for me, but I believe we can reach the South Gate eating village on the other side of that ridge and from there catch a bus back to Oncheonjang. West Gate is the only one of the four I have never visited so it would be nice to check that off the list as well, time permitting. We will start with a cable car ride (W3500), so this hike is only moderately strenuous. As this hike might be a little bit longer in duration I am setting the start time a little earlier at 9AM (OMG) so please make a note of that and curtail your dancing the previous evening accordingly. dutch lunch. dress appropriately. weather update on FB page Friday PM.
