If Hitler had any chance of living a long, stress free life or losing some of that excess body fat he was carrying around I think he first should have started with a banana for that rage and obvious crash in blood sugar! That’s right, I just made a correlation between Hitler’s quest for world domination and low blood sugar. Hopefully, that has expressed to you the importance of eating right and avoiding sugary snacks that will spike and then crash your blood sugar, making you as crazy as, well, Hitler!
So, RELAX! For those of you teaching in South Korea, summer vacation is just around the corner and it’s the perfect opportunity to regroup and rest.
I was recently listening to a teleseminar for The Institute for the Psychology of Eating and something that was said caught my attention, “The body is solidified mind.” So, that means that everything that goes on in my head creates my body?! Well, yes! Think about it, do you know someone who eats right and exercises but cannot seem to lose weight? Is that person also really stressed or always dealing with an emotional event?
The body cannot lose weight in a state of stress. These hormones signal an emergency to the body causing it to be unsure of when or where the next food source will come from so it clams up! It will not release any of the fat stores it is holding until it knows that it will be fed again.
If the brain senses stress, discomfort, abandonment, hurt, fear, disappointment, or depression those hormones are pushed out into the body and they manifest themselves into our actions, behaviours, moods, facial expressions, feelings, love, everything!
In short the body cannot function the way we want it to unless our brains are on board. That means being able to successfully deal with stress, disappointment, depression, unhappiness and the whole spectrum of emotions that we have.
The first step in dealing with stressors successfully (that’s a toungetwister) is to turn those negative thoughts into positive. You can start the next time you notice a negative thought creep into your mind by repeating a positive phrase instead. Try “thank you” or even “love” to begin with. This is a great first step in re-wiring your thought process!
