Disco Dog!

After reminiscing at some length about the fluffy glory of the Cat Cafe, this weekend some friends and I decided to visit its Doggy counterpart…and boy oh boy, were we ever glad we did!

Basically the Dog Cafe is exactly the same concept as the Kitty one, except much better value and with more social animals. The kitty one (in Nampo) cost around 7000 won for a drink, but then you were free to stay and play with the cats for as long as you wanted. I was pretty darn thirsty by the end of it, I can tell you. With the dog one (in Jangsan) it was 8000 won per person, which included a drink and the invitation to help yourself to the snacks table, which was pretty well stocked with waffles, doughnuts, cheesecake and deliciously more-ish tiny biscuits we originally thought were for the dogs.

The cafe itself was above a pet shop (I came dangerously close to impulse buying a puppy on the way out) and was split into a waiting area and the actual cafe. The waiting area housed the giant dogs (a spitz, afghan hound, burnese mountain dog and golden retriever I think) whilst the cafe was teeming with tiny little guys more suited to jumping on your lap and trying to steal a sneaky bite of doughnut.

During our couple of hours in fluffball heaven, we were visited by a dog who looked a bit like Snoop, a terrifying lavender-dyed thing with Steve Buscem-eyes and a simply marvellous creature we named ‘The Brigadier’ on account of his glorious moustache and lofty temperament. We also saw a cat shaved to look like a freakish cross between a lion and a poodle, which nearly sent my friend Ethan into an apoplectic rage for some reason…perhaps he just really hates cats with dyed purple feet.

Also, dogs sometimes wear makeup here. They so sassy!
