This week I was stuck at home with the flu, super fun! Nara’s Mother was kind enough to send over a huge tray of fresh strawberries and they looked so pretty I just had to snap some photos!

It is really amazing how much better the produce is here in Korea vs the USA~ I will not really get into how genetically modified American fruits and veges in particular are… but when you start shopping here it becomes VERY noticeable just how different things taste and look here VS home.
Where I lived you could NOT find this sort of strawberry in grocery stores, it was always that same giant breed! I love strawberries, but the main type on the shelf most of the year is essentially bred to be very red, large, and travel well because we ship fruit all over the place.. flavor depends on time time of year, but lots of the time they are a little tart! Food actually seems to last a lot longer back at home, at first I was annoyed by how quick things went bad in Korea, but eventually I started to wonder if things looking fresh for weeks on end actually was any better? Prob not.
This tray was my first encounter with some real “Farm Fresh” berries in a very long time… and wow. They are so soft and fragile + filled with juice that dyes your fingertips a bright red! So small and sweet, nothing like what I was used to eating!!
I quickly cut them up and put them in some tupperware (sadly it is not very cute) to snack on while I watched TV in bed and rested~ it was great! It made me miss the “U pick it” farms we used to have all over the place where I grew up in Florida…. are those even around anymore? Anyway, I ended up scarfing all of these down before they got too soft, but next time I think I want to try and make some strawberry lemonade since it is summer! Lemonade and lemon tea is everyplace here in Korea, but I have not some across any strawberry tea or aid yet! WHY? Gotta fix that!
