Day 6- Visiting Barcelona's Parque Zoologico

Tuesday May 10th, 2011

We heard that El Parque Zoological was just as beautiful as the park it lived in, so we set about going to visit it today.

We got a cab and he dropped us off at the entrance of the botanical garden. From there it's about a 5-10 minute walk to the entrance gates for the zoo. We paid the ?17.50 entry fee and walked in.

The zoo is very open and the enclosures clean and spacious for the animals. I have visited a few zoo over the years and I was impressed with this one. Africa land was the first exhibit we saw and housed the zebras, giraffes and elephants. From there, we moved onto the gorillas and the mountain goats. As I got close to take a photo of the furry goats, one got close to the fence and I couldn't help but put my hand close to him, when all of a sudden, he licked my palm. It was so cute. Daniel did a great job at capturing the moment.

There were peacocks walking around freely around the park and there were alot of good photo opportunities with them. We stopped by to see the dolphin show and we were surrounded by so many school kids!!! The trainer has two dolphins with him and they played and did tricks, such as jumping up in the air and hitting a ball and pulling their trainer as he hung onto their fins. They were so cute and looked so happy when they received the fish treat.

Once back outside, I noticed there were adult students with drawing pads, sketching the animals. I took a sneak peek at some of their drawings and they were really good. I wouldn't mind doing something like that back home in Sydney. Or Korea. But the closest zoo is in Seoul, so it's not very realistic.

I absolutely love animals, so going to the zoo just made our trip to Barcelona even better. We finished at the zoo around 2pm and soon caught a cab back to the city. To think we were having such a good time here, we had forgotten to have some churros con chocolate, so guess where our next stop was?!?!

We found a great little churro place, just around the corner from La Catedral Gotico, called Valor. The owner was really friendly and happily served us our coffee cups full of warm, thick, rich chocolate and very long churros- yummmmmmmmmm ;)

In the evening, we went to see a Flamenco Dance at a restaurant called Tablao Flamenco, which is located in Las Rambla. Dinner and drinks were included and it was a great way to unwind our trip in Barcelona. I am really loving Barcelona. It's going to be hard to leave.
