Christmas is upon us. With just a few days until this glorious holiday why brave the cold weather and crowds to go shopping for another tacky Dongdaemun sweater? Instead what about giving back to the glorious country that you are living in? Here is my 2013/14 holiday alternative gift giving guide.

Help build homes for low income families or those families who have lost their home do to natural disasters.

Community Involvement

Global Village Volunteers


Help become  involved in the Itaewon-Hannam community by volunteering to help at one of the Global Village Center programs including craft projects for the disabled, teaching English for less fortunate children, food services activities at homeless shelters and exercise programs.

Angel House

The first and third Saturday of each month volunteers go to Angel house where 50 disabled residents live.  Volunteers clean the facility, do laundry, cook food and spend time with the resident.

 

Homeless Ministry

Hope for Korea


This ministry goes out on the streets every Sunday from 3-6pm near Yeongdeung-po station to hand out food and clothing to the homeless and provide fellowship.

Save the Children, Korea


We have been working in Korea since 1953, providing free surgery for children with congenital disease , child abuse prevention and treatment, subsidy for children in low-income families and education of children's right. Save the Children will take care of children under no protection in Asia and all over the world , as well as children in Korea.

Save the Children was reorganized by combining Child Protection Fund,Inc. with Save the Children Korea in June 14, 2004. Strengths of each organization were maximized to provide more children with love, hope and courage.

Hope for Korea


Hope for Korea is a ministry working under Teen Challenge Korea. We started about four years ago and have since been out on the streets every Sunday afternoon and evening handing out clothes and food to the people we meet, and making friends. We started out as Project Yeongdeung-po with a bunch of young students, but we changed our name to Hope for Korea
and  joined Teen Challenge Korea.  If you have donations please e-mail us because we'll take about anything.

Itaewon Global Village Center (and many other Global Village centers)


Takes donations of clothing, shoes, household items, books, toys, kitchen utensils, small sports equipment, and small household electronics to be used in community outreach.

Second Hand Rose Thrift Store


We offer gently used items for all those with access to the Yongsan Garrison.We are a non-profit organization, all proceeds benefit USFK and Korean charities. If you do not have access to Yongsan base, volunteers from our shop are more than happy to arrange a pick up your donations, just call us to arrange it.

The Salvation Army Thrift Store


The Salvation Army Thrift Store operates family stores of recycling as well as never-used products under the Salvation Army Korea Territory. All the profits from our stores are used to support people in need in the community and fund drug and alcohol abuse treatment and rehabilitation programs at ARC. The Salvation Army ARC provides several different programs to the drug and alcohol addicts, and helping them to work together in cooperation through job training and to return to society again.
