Wordz Only 39

Date:

Saturday, September 27, 2014 - 20:30

Location:

Event Type:

Wordz Only is a night of righteous Spoken Word: poetry, short stories, personal narratives, limericks, sonnets, rhymes, murmurs, hollers, chants, rants, tall tales, & spontaneous combustion.

For this particular event, we are going to celebrate the life & work of Charles Bukowski, poet, novelist, drinker, smoker, editor, rebel rouser, & post office worker. Drop in--not out--& read/perform some of his work or works mimicking or inspired by him. One note: no one is required to stick to the theme of the event. By participating in a spoken word event & using language as your medium of expression, you are already celebrating him in a large way.

First-timers, old-timers, slammers, drinkers, stinkers, ALL WELCOME!

The night works like this:

all those wishing to read/share/say/perform should show up by 7:30pm & throw their name into the silver lunch box. The first performer is drawn from the box. When the first person finishes, he or she draws the second person--& this process continues througout the night. Ideally, performers should limit their reading time to 7 to 12 minutes, mostly because we've had more and more people comfortable with reading and we want everyone to have a chance; but the time is flexible, especially if you can hold the audience's attention in a hailstorm.

HQ Kyungsung is a legendary spot with quality beers & plenty of grub to get your feed on in full. In Kyungsung, if you are looking at the Starbucks, go left, walk to the first street, turn right, go two blocks, & go up the stairs. It's on the 3rd floor. If you walk to the CU Mart, you've gone too far. Turn around & look up to the left.

HQ does a great job supporting the expat spok community! In return, we need to support the HQ! Therefore, it is HIGHLY encouraged that everyone do the right thing & make at least ONE purchase from their menu.

Hope you are all doing well, and excited for another great night of Wordz!
