Our next time volunteering is Saturday, August 21st. We meet at Sindaebang Station on the Green # 2 line at 1:30, outside of exit # 2. Sindaebang Station is in the southwest part of the Green #2 circle line. We meet at the station and then take a short bus ride to the center.

Please be on time. You can contact E.J. at 010-2982-2087 if you are having problems finding us.

We will volunteer from 2-4:30 pm and be back at the station ... by 5. From 2 – 2:55 is the first period. Then we switch kids. From 3 – 3:55 is... the second period. Then, if the weather is nice, we'll head to a playground to play with the kids: duck duck goose, tag, climbing on the jungle gyms, general horseplay and tomfoolery! If it's too hot or raining we stay inside and play bingo as a group.

Depending on the number of volunteers, we will divide up the kids in 3-5 groups. They have 5 classrooms. We should have at least two volunteers to a group to make things go smoothly and enjoyably.

The kids are at a pretty basic level. The lowest level kids are at the “I’m fine, thank-you” stage. The older ones can handle a little more. If you come with a few ideas, a few flashcards, a story book, or something like that, between the 2-3 teachers in a class you can have a great time and really help the kids. Tag team teaching! When we get to the center we'll put your in your teaching groups and give you a few minutes to game plan. If you can have an idea for the younger kids and idea for the older kids, that's perfect.

The center doesn't have much in the way of resources; there are no computers for PPT's and if you want to use music you'll have to bring you're own mp3 player and speakers. A couple of the classrooms have small whiteboards, but not all of them. We'll do our best to accommodate you if you absolutely need a whiteboard but can't make any promises. They do have lots of crayons and markers.

The kids are usually pretty well behaved, but they can be a handful at times so be ready to change gears in a hurry, and if all else fails just color and give piggy back rides. And it’s not just about helping them with their English. For these kids this is a rare opportunity to spend time with foreigners and get some extra love and attention.

The kids are very appreciative and enthusiastic about our visits. We always have a great time, and they are looking forward to us being back again.
