Comparisons have been drawn as a cross between Talking Heads and The Pixies and while the band has garnered a fierce following among its fans, they've become equally sought to share stages by touring bands. The three piece has built up a staggering resume of live shows, including making appearances alongside Deerhoof, Quasi, The Microphones, Sunset Rubdown, The Folk Implosion, Love as Laughter, The Magic Magicians, and +/- among others. The band maintains strong ties to to the Northwest independent music scene, including K Records (label to tour mate and close friend Phil Elverum/Mount Eerie). Mount Eerie/The Microphones has even covered mools' “Koneko Calendar,” featured on their live album and Pitchfork has gone so far as to cite "Bonchi No Natsu" (Yoyo A Go Go 1999) from a list of "twelve songs that made Phil Elverum cry." moools' tightly arranged twelve-track fifth LP, Weather Sketch Modified (2010), showcases the bands impressive musical range. Tracks like "Iru Iranai" feature Yasuaki Sakai's loose, slightly off-kilter vocals alongside expansive guitar riffs accented by muted strings. "Konaiyo" bears heavy markings of alt-country/jazz influences while the tremendously abrasive, yet still pop-oriented punk number "CRC" are furthermore challenged by the disparate workings of the epic jam "Kage mo Katachi"; a track that features a flurry of keys, banjo, and sing-a-long chorus. Weather Sketch Modified delivers a catalogue of sound that is as imaginative and substantial as the band's expansive career.
