>Indigo Youth Book Fair 2010
Indigo Sowon, a humanities bookstore for young people, will hold the Indigo Youth Book Fair 2010 from August 18th to 22nd 2010 as a part of the Indigo Global Humanities Project. The project is intended to create a new cultural ground for young idealists, based upon re-evaluating ideas and visions that are inspired by books, and to draw a new map of humanistic spirit, rather than trading superficial and materialistic cultural products.

Indigo Youth Book Fair 2010 is an extended version of Indigo Youth Book Fair 2008 in which we tried to explore the true meaning of ‘Human, being-in-between’. The key concept of this second project is about ‘Value’. In the previous journeys, our studies were within a theme of ‘human-in-between’ and all participants attempted to find the possibility of building sensitivity towards others and of creating a communal way of living. And then we asked: “what’s next?” We asked ourselves again: “what are we to do to make a difference?” And the question led us to choose the theme of “re-evaluation of core values” in human life as the main focus for a second journey. Thus we started our journey to re-evaluate core values in our lives which, we believe, will make human beings more humane.

There are hundreds of thousands of different cultures and values in this world. But there are also fundamental and, so-called, universal values rooted in our lives that help us to overcome all kinds of barriers in order to live as a creature of the Earth in this one world. We could possibly point out those important human values: love, peace, life, equality, justice, and so on. Yet we believe that now is the time to question these values again, especially whether they are still valid and important in a new century.

Since the values are constituents of human life and society, we will be at the very edge of our life if these values could not stand in our life form. And if we stop paying attention to these core values, we will lose the chance of facing up to the problems and will be surrendered by the illusion of momentary values. Now, the absence of values is not a subject that only the academics should talk about; rather it is a subject for everyone. So ultimately, Indigo Youth Book Fair 2010 wishes to set about this task of the re-evaluation of core values with you.

In this second journey, Indigo Global Humanities Project team has been drawing a new map of human values: ‘Justice and Hope’ (North America), ‘Equality and Diversity’ (Asia), 'Freedom and Self-realization’ (Europe), ‘Community and Democracy’ (Africa), 'Life and Nature’ (Oceania), and ‘Beauty and Love’ (South America). By re-questioning these core values of our lives, we hope to explore the genuine beauty of life and to construct a better way of living. Indigo have been searching all around the world for the creative activists and change makers of our time who are sowing new seeds of hope in their lives and activities. And we invite these inspiring activists and creative thinkers to Busan, South Korea, to share what they all have dedicated and achieved. We hope to create a new space for global conversation in this territory of friendship in pursuit of humanitarian values. adfs
