The Inaugural Running of the Busan Boshintong Hash House Harriers

Who: Everyone who feels like having some beer, enjoys getting outside, and maybe getting some exercise. Oh, and if you don't feel like occasionally making a fool of yourself, that's a plus.

What: Being a Hash House Harrier involves being in a drinking club with a running problem. The basic set up is like this: Everyone meets at a predetermined location, and at a certain time, the hares, or those who set the trail that everyone will follow, run off. After 15 minutes, every follows them. This 15 minutes allows everyone to get a beer or two (or water, if that sounds better) into you.

The trail has false trails, stops where everyone has to sing, and is usually around 3 miles long or so. At the end, everyone gets together for circle, where people drink for being too fast, too slow, doing stupid things, doing smart things, or just doing things. Afterward, we'll head to a bar for some more drinking.

Hashing started before WWII in Kuala Lumpur, and its goals were:
* To promote physical fitness among our members
* To get rid of weekend hangovers
* To acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it in beer
* To persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel

Where: Haeundae Station, Exit 5. Look for chalk marks on the ground directing you where to go.

When: 1/16/2010 @ 3PM.

Why: Because nothing compliments a good run like beer and frivolity.

Cost: 5,000 won (which will pay for all the beer you can drink until that money runs out).

http://www.meetup.com/meetups

Thanks again, Becca

Simply: Yes

I'm going to see how this first one goes. I'm trying to get this going every other week right now, and if forward momentum develops, eventually moving to once a week.

Once I figure out the next place, I'll post it here, Busan meetup, flyers in expat bars, and the website/listserv I am about to create.

If you have any questions, give me an email.

Cheers,

Matt

Why do you call it

Why do you call it Busan Boshintong if it has nothing to do with eating dog soup? Seems silly to me......

Carrying on the Naming Tradition

While there are many hashes in Korea, two of my favorite are the Osan Bulgogi Hash House Harriers and the Yongsan Kimchi Hash House Harriers. I was just carrying on the tradition. Also: I like alliteration.

Cheers,

Matt

I think everyone who attends

I think everyone who attends should eat boshintong as a confirmation of their dedication to the installation of the BBHHH.

Have fun peoples.....

Good Idea

I've done Hashes all over the world, from a young age, one wonders how they'll work with Busan Traffic.Have an ambulance to hand!Good luck with that, honestly.

Well...

They manage to make it work in Seoul, Osan, Koje and Gwanju. The first thing they tell you at a hash in Seoul is don't be Roadkill. The message will be continued.

Cheers,

Matt
