hotel/motel/holiday inn

Some friends and I are making the trek to Seoul this weekend (from Busan) and are looking for an affordable motel/love hotel for the night. We are coming specifically to shop, so the closer to Myongdong, the better.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, and when I say

Oh, and when I say "Myongdong", I clearly mean Myeongdong.

Motel Directions.

Think this is probably too late, but will post anyway for future reference.

I know a really nice place called Tomgi hotel. It's 50 on weekdays, and 60 on weekends. Rooms are gorgeous, nice big 42" screens, computers with internet in every room and those multi jet power showers, they even have a sauna feature built in if you are heading there during winter. It is also one of the new breeds of Korean hotel/motel crossover, with a proper reception area and waiting room, and you can even play a game of pool in the coffee shop/bar if you want.

Location is pretty damn central as well. It's in NakWon Dong (낙원동) which is right near InSa Dong (인사동) where all the traditional arts and crafts shops are. It's also bang on the subway a few stops from Seoul station on line 1.

Here is the website.

Click on travel info for a map, but I will try and give my directions, too.

Take the subway online 1 to Jong No 3 Ga (종로3가) station, exit 1. Go staight and you will walk past TapGol Park (탑골공원). Take the road to the right of Tapgol park that leads you along the edge of it. And keep going straight up the next road. It will lead you to NakWon Dong and you will get to a small T junction with a big ugly white building (which is Nakwon music mart if you are a musician) on your left the hotel is on your right.

OR from Jong No station, find a way to transfer to line 5 within the same station. And exit from line 5 either exit 4 or 5 and it's right there when you emerge.

OR take a taxi from the station, will cost you about 5 bucks. Tell the taxi driver 낙원상가 which takes you to the music mart. Then just look around and you will see it.

Now if this place is too expensive for you, there is another place I've often used just around the corner. It used to be 40 on weekends, but haven't been there for over a year, so prices may have changed.

It's called the Sky motel, if you can get to exactly the same subway exit on Line 5 look across the road to where the music mart is and find a small alleyway that runs up the side of the music mart going north. There should be a small mom and pop convenience store on the corner. Take this alley and take the first even smaller alley on your right. The Sky is the last motel on the left. The lady speaks a bit of English too, which always helps.
