F4 Visa and DWI on background check

I'm an American Korean adoptee that would like to move to Seoul or the surrounding area for 1-2 years to experince the culture and travel. I initally planned to teach English for work but have learned that a clean background check is required and I have a DWI on my record. I can get a F4 visa but my understanding is that the schools will request the background check. Will any schools hire without a background check or is it possible to tutor or find a non-teaching job without a background check? I have some money saved up so I would be able to move first and look from work while in Korea if needed. I am a 30 year old male in case that is pertinent. Thanks!

Re: F4 Visa and DWI on background check

Hi .. Im in the same boat as you .. I got a DWI and my dreams of going to teach in korea are shattered.. i was wondering if you got any information on this ? or were you able to get a job??

Re: F4 Visa and DWI on background check

Not all schools require a background check. If you get a full time job, you probably will need a background check, but many part time places don't worry about one. There are places that hire foreigners just to teach conversational English, which is basically just a speaking class, and you don't need a background check for those places. For a non teaching job, I wouldn't think you'll need a background check. The background checks are a requirement of the education department. But for a non teaching job you'll have to be able to speak Korean. Age might be a sight problem, because schools like young teachers. But if you knock on enough doors, you'll find someone that will hire you. I'm in my 50s and I found a teaching job.  Good luck
