2011 Busan Surfing Info

The government will be opening beaches throughout Korea early this year. The beach season will run from June 1st at some beaches until August 31st (3 months). According to news reports issued today some beaches up north and on Jeju will open from June 10th.

Haeundae will be partially opened from June 1st to July 1st when it will fully open. What this means for surfers we're not sure yet but please obey the authorities and if you're asked to get out of the water please do so. The United Surfers of Haeundae and other surfing organizations in Busan will work hard to get Haeundae open to surfers through the summer season in the mornings before the beach opens and after it closes but their efforts will be hampered if everyone doesn't follow the same rules. Remember Korea is different from other countries where surfing is well established thus the rules are different - you're not surfing your home break so it's important to follow the current regulations here to help bring about changes in the future. Regulations for the 2011 season will be posted as soon as they are made available. Currently the beaches are all open to surfers at any time. Songjeong beach will have it's surfing area which is the only designated surfing area in Busan during beach season while the beaches are open from 9am-6pm.
*** Remember, you MUST register with sea police when going out to surf when high wind/sea warnings are posted. You MUST also register for the beach you are surfing at - if you change beaches you have to re-register.
Thanks for your cooperation
