NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

The Wolfhound Irish Pub & Restaurant will be opening a place in Haeundae at the end of November and we are looking for advice.

We would like to know want is missing from the Busan scene.

Things to consider are:

Live Music - should we build a stage for live music?

Electronic Music - should we add some decks so we can host DJs?

Dance floor - should we make a dance floor or just have tables?

Food - what kind/type or style of food/restaurant is missing in Busan?

Sports - what sports would you like to see on the big screen?

Events - would a wing night, steak night, ladies night be popular?

Anything else you would like to suggest will be appreciated.

Please feel free to reply and add as little or as much as you want.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Everything you mention is pretty much available already in some form or another, I guess the question is how you can do it better.

I frequented your Itaewon bar many times and have always been impressed by your menu. I would choose your menu over Geckos anyday, so I would definitely introduce that. Watch your prices though.

Personally I wouldn't go with a dedicated dance floor. That market is already pretty saturated with places such as Elune, Maktum and Murph II already pulling in the punters. But sometimes people like to strut their stuff, so an area that could be double as seating or dance floor could be useful. And getting some decks would be useful in such an event.

Live music is always an option, most of the ex-pat bars already have regular live acts. But, that's a good thing, the more venues the better in my opinion.

Outside seating or a balcony or even a large open window is always welcome in the summer.

Events I would play by ear. I know you have a trivia night in your Itaewon bar on Sundays, but there are already 2 established quiz nights in the Kyung Sung university area and in Haeundae (well I think the Haeundae one is still going. Anybody?)

Anyhow, that's all I have to add.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I have to agree with most of what Matt said.  However, for me personally, the idea of having electronic music, decks and DJ's, at an Irish pub, makes me want to put pencils up my nose and drive them into my brain with a rolling pin.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

two words: juke box.  actually, it may be one word.  i am not sure.

as far a food goes, this town is really missing a good veggie burger (which you already have on your menu) and some good, or even decent, falafel.  falafel is not irish, but you did ask about food. used to hang out at a british/irish (mixed couple) that had a mean hummus, cheese, and fresh veggies platter.  goes with beer better than a fruit platter.

a place with thump thump dance electric type music would be getting in line with all the others. there are some places for good ole' rock and roll and i think those places are groovy and do pretty well for themselves.  they get my money.  i want to give you money for falafel.

drop another dime! yeah

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I agree, a jukebox would be a great idea!

I'd vote against a dancefloor/decks to be honest. I'm also not a fan of the live music scene in Busan so could take or leave another live venue.

As for menu, if you guys sell decent fish and chips and a good fry-up that would be enough for me!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Some of this depends on where you are in Haeundae exactly, personally I don't venture out to Haeundae for nights out very often...in that respect I think you should only invest in a stage/dance floor/decks if you're going to make a real effort with it to convince people to spend their entire evening there. If anything, I'd say go with the Live Music option (which is surely more closely tied in with a pub anyway).

The food at your Seoul pub was great when we went there. I can't remember whether or not you had Sunday roasts or full English breakfasts but Busan is crying out for somewhere that does both of those, include them and you'll make a killing! As somebody else mentioned too, a good fish and chips would go down very well; essentially I think you'll do well with any British/Irish pub classics as there are limited places that do anything similar around here.

Sportswise, I can only think of one specific suggestion. Half the bars in town already show the football, and things like Formula 1/rugby are probably a bit too niche to draw in the crowds (US sports might do so occasionally but the timings would be way off). How about doing delayed showings of some of the football games (or indeed other sports)? So that rather than, or as well as, being at midnight on the Saturday you show the big game of the day at 3pm on Sunday - that would tie in perfectly with the Sunday roast option too ;-) I'd definitely come all the way across town for those two together!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I cant wait for opening night! I agree, an Irish bar should keep to playing good traditional music that would be found in an Irish bar back home...no electronic dance poo! I would love to see on the menu a good steak and ale pie with mashed potatoes! It would be heaven on a plate! See you on the 4th!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I haven't been to many bars in Korea because most of them have outragous prices for food and most of them require you to drink tons of alcohol in order to be able to swallow the food. I haven't been to the one in Itaewon, but if you are expanding, I assume you don't have a problem with that.

I'd suggest that you make the atmosphere very inviting. It doesn't need to be a club. I think if you focus on what a pub is supposed to do, that it will be successful, especially among expats.

For myself, I'd love to give it a try once it opens up. What I think would make it nice is if there is a good website that is maintained often to keep a current menu, how to get there, prices, and specials. If you already have one, I am sorry, but if you don't, please make one. I am strange, but I like to know what I am ordering even before getting on the subway to come on over.

Also, the hardest part, is keeping prices down while offering a good selection and decent quality. I'd also recommend for those who enjoy drinking, make sure to have a good selection of beers. I don't drink, but I do find that most Korean or Korean-Western pubs (which are really more like just boring bars) tend to focus just on the Korean beers and offer very few imported drinks. I swear that I went to one in Seoul and they had all kind of "western stuff" outside, but the only imported beer they had was Asahi.

Thats my 2 cents. Just keep it a pub, not a dance studio. Keep the food decent and well priced. Make a website focused on the food, not photos of white people eating in your pub to attract Koreans. And please make sure there is a decent selection of beer for those who enjoy that. If you do that and advertise well, you will be rewarded with strong patronatage. Good luck and hope all goes well!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Hi,

Yeah I want to add my vote for having DJ equipment. Just because other bars are playing electronic music a lot doesn't mean you have to. It also doesn't mean that the DJs in HaeUndae only know how to play electronic music.  There are many factors involved in what is being played at a given moment and people who walk in the door of a certain place will probably have no idea about that.

Anyways, I think that DJ equipment is a good investment regardless of a jukebox or whatever. They are different issues really. Music on Monday afternoon will be different than late Friday night (most likely).

If you want to have well organized events, parties, etc (and I know that the WolfHound does) then some Pioneer CDJays with an amp are the best way to go. Buy used if money is short...

If there is no equipment, then a few DJs that can supply their own equipment and  can still set up but it clearly limits who can play (for example look at the StarFace Bar, no equipment for DJs) and hence very few DJs playing there.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I reckon yes, live music is a must! As for food how about some traditional carvery roasts? Can't seem to find them anywhere. I would kill for some roast beef/chicken/pork with Yorkshire puds, roast spuds, Veg and gravy! And you should show Irish sporting events too. Couldn't find anywhere to watch the all-Ireland football and hurling finals. What a disaster!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

another thing this town is lacking is a good bar that opens before noon on a holiday.  you know, days when us e2 visa holders want a drink before noon or at noon.  opening early on saturdays and sundays would be a bonus, too.  blowfish opens early in the afternoon, but it is a bit out there and the beach is not the most comfortable place to be in february. (it is a great place, though).

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I personally think that DJ gear is not something that needs concentrating on. There are plenty of places in Busan to see and hear this sort of thing, another one really just isn't needed.

As you may have gathered from the previous comments, one thing in scarce supply is a proper pub. Somewhere that you can hear yourself speak over the music and just relax over a few pints. DJ's simply do not add to the sense of ambience.

If people want to dance then they will generally go to a club. You'd do far better offering yourself as an alternative to this rather than trying to compete with places more established and better designed for that purpose.

Sunday roasts would clean up in this town too.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

i definitely think it would be great if as an irish pub you actually were able to show Irish sports like GAA(impossible to find) and Rugby. Irish breakfasts would be amazing, and would love roast dinners on a Sunday. traditional music would be nice too, even if its only background music early in the evening.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Good idea to have some user input.

My 2 cents:

Good food and beer are a must.

Have a theme for each night, so that people know what they are getting each night.  Wings night, steak night, quiz night etc.

Keep a website with the offers and themes regularly updated.  Also keep a big chalkboard outside with specials and sports that will be shown everyday.

It would be great if you were open at noon on holidays and weekends.

I think if live music/DJ's are kept to Friday and Saturday after 8pm, then the old grouches will know when to leave, and the young party people can stay and have fun (and spend more money).

A jukebox would be awesome, as would a quiz machine.

Also a massive SUNDAY ROAST please!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Make it a real pub atmosphere!  Open early on the weekends.  If you have a TV, only turn it on when a good sports event merits it - don't have it blaring as background all of the time.  Also, give free pours of Jameson whisky - none of these crappy tiny measured shots for six bucks.  You are sure to engender the love of your customers this way... (read: me) Also, don't charge ridiculous prices.  I understand that we are in Korea and imported stuff can be a bit dear, but don't hose us just because we're "in Korea."

And I'd rather eat a hand grenade than endure DJs at a pub.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

yeah, DJs or DeeJays and a pub seem a strange mix.  old grouches?  not sure if that means they should not be in 'the club' or they should not be out, period, but food, conversation, and drinks are a pretty good combination.  glad to see i am not the only one who thinks busan could use a place that opened at noon.  this town could line the pockets of someone who provides a venue for these things.  especially if it was an irish place that served falafel and had a jukebox.  ahh, homecooking.  say it:'there is nothing like nan's falafel.'

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

It sounds like most people are in agreement with what we planned for the pub.  We plan to keep it as similar as possible to the Wolfhound in Seoul in terms of food and atmosphere.  A nice comfortable cozy pub for a few pints and dinner in the afternoons and early evenings with the music getting louder and more up beat later into the night on weekends.

For special occasions we will do live music and on rare special occasions we will bring in DJs.  At the Wolfhound in Seoul we have only ever brought in DJs on Halloween (3 times) and New Years Eve (twice) in the four and half years we have been open.

We plan to open from 4pm on weekdays and from 11am on Saturdays Sundays and holidays.

We can get Guinness, Kilkenny, Alley Cat, Hoegaarden and local beers and we are working on getting cider.

You can see our Seoul menu on the link below and the menu in Busan will be slightly scaled down but other than that we wont introduce any new items.  We have to make sure we maintain the quality and speed of service of our Seoul menu here in Busan first before we can introduce any new items.

MENU:   http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/album.php?aid=8750&id=100001666094364

As in Seoul Double Jamesons will be our house special.

Grand Opening is set for Saturday Dec 4.  See you soon.

And if you have more suggestions or advice by all means keep it coming.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

The best advice I could give would be:

--To not go cheap on the sound system--put some money into a good basic system--even the Bose lifestyle cubes strategically placed would be fine--and a basic mixing board for live music and a couple of plug-in jacks for mp3 players.  DJs for special events, fine--but if it's supposed to be a pub, let it be one.  People can go to "Murph II" if they want mind-numbing dance music.

--Lime, lemon juice, club soda, and ginger ale!  Essential for mixers!

--consider selling tickets to big Thanksgiving buffets, and close the bar on that day--spare no expense, people will turn up in droves.

--something like half-priced wings with any beverage a couple nights a week--like from Sunday to Tuesday, after 8pm.

--try to hire staff that keep actually spend more time working instead of texting or trying to pick up customers.

--Allow for weird hours due to international sports events--Euro 2012, the olympics, Champions League games, Six Nations, etc. are on at all times--be sure to advertise whether or not you'll be open for them, and play up the bigger events with drink (or food) specials.

--KEEP THE DAMN PLACE CLEAN!!!  If O'Brien's had used hot water, brooms, and bleach, it would still be open.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I like that the guys setting up a second franchise of one of the most successful bar/restaurants in Seoul and people want to give him advice on a how to run a business.  Some how I don't think that's exactly the kind of input he was after.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Bulmers is Irish! But, English or Irish some real cider would be more than welcome. I didn't drink it that much when I lived in England, but when I return now I always order a couple of pints.

Is the kitchen open yet or do we have to wait a little longer than that. Already got my tailor made breakfast planned out.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

To be honest, I wouldn't cater to foreigners. You can get upscale koreans to go to a place like this in this area.  There are enough places for foreigners all ready.

Don't serve cheap draft beer(anything korean)  and you will never have any problems.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

They would serve me because I don't hang out with rowdy drunken masses of  English teachers. I don't associate with that clique.

I've tried for years to distance myself from them and the bad baggage they carry around; drugs, alcohol, whoring, fake degrees, unqualified, limited or no-financials/savings for the amount of time spent here.  All the other things under the sun which is stereotypical of the 'English teacher' in the media here.

Kil, I know you are either a shipbuilder or engineer of some sort and not an English teacher. You  probably make more money than me with your expense account alone.  Drinking with you would be an honor.  It really is all about the benjamins, when it comes down to it.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Why thank you kindly sir, much appreciated.

With reference to the income, as per all spendaholics,  income is ALWAYS less than expenditure, so guess at the end of the day, I am classed as a poor country boy from Geoje.

Yep into ship building for my sins, drill ships,  same type that blew up and sank in the Gulf of Mexico, but don't blame me, I didn't build that one!!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

there is nothing wrong with being a prostitute!  that has nothing to do with a new place opening in busan that has many people excited.  one should not judge sex workers without proper experience on both sides of the transaction. oh wait, you talk like people who work hard or have worked hard in that field are less than human.  'whores' as you call them are the same as everyone else, it is very difficult, nearly impossible even, to identify a working one or a former one in a crowd.  try it some time, i bet you fail every time.    bring on the wolfhound and the delicous food and drink it offers!   who needs benjamins when you've got friends in the industry!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Please, please, please bring on the hard cider -- any kind!  It is something that can't be found anywhere else in Busan (maybe even Seoul?...).  Also, it would be nice to hear trad Irish music one night a week rather than the same top 40 music that plays everywhere else.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

You seem to have Sexy barmaids with revealing outfits ( cleavage is always a winner).Menu looks excellent, reputation is sound, just turn up.The Irish factor is always a winner. Shots galore, cheap shots, and lots!!!

Quizzes, Bingo ,Rugby, Cricket, theme events, etc.A great front man is always the key.People wanna talk to the main man.Everyone wants to be the owner's friend. You know what you are doing, do your thing, perfection is boring anyway. Kiwi Craig was a good front man from Obrien's  Gaya.

The best thing is to do it your way!Every guy in town will tell you what they think, but they have few original ideas.Just stick to what you are good at.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Just be a good Irish pub with top quality Irish beer (and not just the black stuff), Irish food (that is NO mozarella sticks!) and decent Irish (pop) music. Anything else is already in Busan and adapt your prices. I love your Itaewon venue but those prices will not work in Busan. Your fish and chips, pies, bangers and mash........ bring them on! Try a good ploughmans with decent Irish cheese for a Sunday brunch and count me in every weekend!

Do not adapt an Irish pub to Korean needs, most Koreans are (no matter how much I love them and living here) absolutely ignorant about European pub culture and food. If you start serving pies with Kimchi or samjang you're lost and you look like the mexican place acros the street who's owner couldn't point out where Mexico was on the map!!!!!! F*cking stupid.

I will check you out on the 4th. so BE IRISH!

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Just a word of advice.

Foreigners don't like being hassled when drinking. The place is very "Western" but the major flaw is the staff. When drinking, my friend and I felt like we were being constantly watched and as soon as our drinks were finished, a staff member would appear and ask it we would like a refill.

Please leave it up the the customers to ASK for a new drink rather than a staff member being there ready as soon as the drink was finished.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

We went there on the weekend, the food is really good, problem with the staff harrasment.  They hover over you not realizing forigners don't like that, and come to near bottom of the glass they are right over do you want another.  Sounds good but you are scared to finish your beer, it's  a little pushy for me.  They have to understand the differences in culture.  Like i said the food is good atmoshere will be better when the staff are made to stand in a corner until you need something and not have it pushed onto you.  Mixed review.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Speak for yourselves, Paul and Wanderer.  I for one, am more than happy when a bartender or staffperson offers to get me a new beer when mine is winding down.  This is considered good pub service world over.  You know how many times I've been drinking in a Korean bar, finish my beer, put it down, only to have it taken away with no new one offered?  Screw that.  Keep the beer flowing.

What do  you mean you were 'scared to finish your beer?' Can't you just tell the staff that you're fine, that  you don't need a new one?

Do you spend all day frantically searching for new stuff to be miserable about?

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

aye aye!  that does sound like good service.  even more annoying is when people take your beer when there is still a few drinks left to drink.  then you go chase down that valuable won still in your mug, only to grab the wrong mug and drink someone else's remnants.  makes me feel dirty, but like a responsible beer drinker who does not waste anything

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

@thearp42

I'm not sure what your problem is. For the record, I don't go searching for things to be miserable about; I was just giving my opinion about the service, the food and beer was very good.

Perhaps you're a beer swilling idiot who can't enjoy a quiet drink like some people do. For me, going to a foreigner bar means foreigner service which involves asking for another beer; not having someone at your side as soon as the beer is finished. I felt pressured in a way, and felt like someone was watching me all the time so I couldn't properly relax. Some people might like this, some don't.

To add to the OP's question, I'd like to keep it low key. There are already enough places that cater to the drunken frat boy who wants to party; having somewhere comfortable to enjoy a quiet drink, watch some sports on TV and have a chat  is in need here. Why make it another party place-

I would like to see some steaks on the menu, especially with pepper sauce, that would be great, or even better, a mixed-grill with steak, sausages and lamb chops. Maybe some deserts like apple pie would be great too.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

Wanderer why does anyone have to be a 'beer swilling idiot' or 'drunken frat boy' because they like to go out, knock back a few drinks and blow off some steam - please get off your high horse!

Secondly you say 'For me, going to a foreigner bar means foreigner service which involves asking for another beer; not having someone at your side as soon as the beer is finished.' - who do you mean by a foreigner? In my local bars/pubs back home they will come over a offer a refill of your drink, this practice is not limited to Korea, in fact i'd say it's more the rule rather than the exception...and I for one welcome it. Like thearp said you can always say 'i'm fine' or 'no thanks' - being a  'foreigner bar' they do understand.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

The place has been open now for a month and I have kept my 'impuls' review until I visited enough times to make a solid one. I read all your reviews and respect all opinions but here's what I see:

First of all let's see what the owner is trying to do here: running an IRISH PUB. How many of you that posted comments actually ever visited an Irish pub in their lives? I mean in Ireland, not bloody up state NY or California. Irish pub culture is unique but it can be copied and brought to Korea, Seoul has decent examples. But a pub is made by the guests too, any attempt to make it a mix will bring the effort down to just another bar with foreigners. Some will come, others stay away. Most bars are dead or change owner anyway within 4 years, I have seen this dozens of times and you will too if you stay around long enough.

Food quality is good to very good, the menu could have a bit more real pub food, a good steak, lamb chops or leg, a roast and a ploughmans. But the quality of what was served was good (I have tried everything on the menu by now). Prices are ok but I can understand comments on it if you are on a budget. Some of the items are worth the money others are a bit steep for what you get served.

Drinks choice is OK, they could do with two or three more good quality drafts (preferably Irish), not the American mass produced piss. They need to start serving more Irish whiskeys and learn how to make a good G&T. Another draft cider would also be welcome, they are already imported in Korea.

Atmosphere was ok on most days, weekends were good. I have been there weekdays, daytime, evenings and weekends. I am lucky enough to make my own work and pub schedule I own a company in Busan.

About the staff and their behaviour:

Irish pubs do not have people hovering over you and constantly checking your glass. No real pub in this world has! Maybe American bars but not pubs. It is spoiling the entire experience and obviously you can say you are fine for now but every two minutes makes it anoying. Staff in a pub clear empty glasses from the table and serve your food, that's it. You get your own drink at the bar, and if you really don't want to go than signal a staff member to come to your table. Staff in any restaurant, bar or pub should never be seen or noticed but always be in the background. But what staff are we talking about here, a bunch of students that are interested only in the next text message on their smart phone? Completely ignorant about how a pub actually works? Pub's are institutes and Korean staff are not aware of that, so don't blame the kids too much, the owner is instructing them. He should learn how to run the place and visit Ireland (or even Hong Kong or Osaka they have great Irish pubs). But he is Korean and as they all do he want's to be rich in the next two years and don't give a crap about the thought behind the concept of an Irish pub franchise. Let's not forget where we are people! The Seoul outlet is doing very well and now they want to do the same thing in Busan. Are there people out there who remember how it was with the first WA bars, Thursday Party and many other bar chains. Some are good others are bad and they change owner a lot and not because he strikes a fortune.

Music choice was ok, but just that. Although pubs will never be able to please everybody. Music simply is too individual. But if the rest in the pub is good people can put up with a few bad music choices as long as there is a good mix. I like to listen to good hard rock music but even that would bother me if it was played non stop for two hours in a pub.

Pub visits are all about having a drink with friends or complete strangers that you just met there, having conversations about just anything. Have some food if you're hungry and on a Friday or Saturday night go loose and have a good night, but don't expect rave music or a dance club. If you want that go to another place.

So to come back to the top: is the Wolfhound an Irish pub? I think not, it tries hard and it is a decent good bar but the owner needs to get more things right to make his pub stand out above the rest. When he invests it could become one of the best pubs in Korea if he leaves it like it is it is just another bar and I will only go there if I am accidentally near the place, I would not make a detour for it or call friends to meet me there. There is potential though and hopefuly we see the place grow in the next few months, Busan could do with a good pub.

P.S. Before I decided to settle in Korea a few years ago I had a company that franchised bar concepts for Interbrew the world over. That plus 40 years of drinking experience in 53 countries make me an expert I guess. Its also the reason I went in the coffee machine and coffee import business not a bar.

Keep drinking! (but be responsible).

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

I found the place too cold and the food not good at all. I saw other tables, too, leaving their food. The owner as well didnt seem to care about anything-he just sat at the bar and drank. I would l ove to see a more hands on owner-someone who goes around and says hi to people and so on. We wont be back to eat for sure but too hang out-perhaps. Many places to go, though, these days so resting on one's name may spell doom. It has got to be better. By far Sharky's food is much better.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

They should charge 10,000 won even for the Shepherds Pie and Fish & Chips.  13,900 is far too steep, especially for a Shepherds Pie dish that's as deep as the tip of my pinky finger.

It's a rather loud atmosphere, but not because of the music.  The "beer swilling, douche bag, frat boy" crowds are found everywhere in Busan, and this is no different.  The establishment itself can't be faulted for that, it's just the way it is.  Heaven forbid we should have a bar that doesn't have a bunch of douches making sure they're as loud as possible so as to divert the attention of every girl in the place...I think bars everywhere would be out of business.

Anyway, the music wasn't bad at all, and they even played a song when I requested one (Celtic themed, of course).

This is certainly lacking in that pub atmosphere, and it would be great if it could cater more to the average joe just looking for a quiet drink at the bar, some good pub food, decent music played at a respectable level, and a sports channel of choice on the TV.

Overall, I think the place has lots of potential.  I look forward to going back and hope they can offer a few more draft choices.

Also, if the cider ain't STRONGBOW, I don't want to drink it.  Places in Busan need to stop advertising it when they never even entertained the idea of having it on tap (I'm looking at you, U2).

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

My mom always made it with ground beef and corn and she called it "Shepherd's Pie", so I automatically assumed that's what the Wolfhound was serving.

Who would have known that all those years...she was WRONG!

Still, she did make a damn fine Cottage Pie.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

''The "beer swilling, douche bag, frat boy" crowds are found everywhere in Busan, and this is no different.  The establishment itself can't be faulted for that, it's just the way it is.  Heaven forbid we should have a bar that doesn't have a bunch of douches making sure they're as loud as possible so as to divert the attention of every girl in the place...I think bars everywhere would be out of business.''

Actually the establishment can be faulted if they sell cheap draft. Get rid of the cheap draft and you rid of the frat boy clientele.   That's why I don't go to foreign food themes/ foreigner infested bars. I'm one of the silent majority that would put up with it while I was there and never return. 99% of the restaurants and bars here are not filled with rowdy douche bag English teachers. They are called Korean restaurants and bars and they cater to Koreans and that's why if I do chose to go out I opt for every other place where whitey is not.

Re: NEW! The Wolfhound Pub is coming to Busan - input requested

@ lee-bum-suk

Ha ha, my sentiments exactly. But on the flipside, there are times when the bars are filled with  mobs of angry, leering lifers who huddle together at the bar and scowl at anyone not as old or obese as them. I'm somewhere in the middle between the dumb frat boys and the disgruntled fat men, and don't really feel compelled to merge with either.

It's Korean places for me too.
