Looking for a language exchange program or group

Hi there, I am looking for a language exchange group or new friends from English countries.

I am a university student and want to improve my English skills.

For example I would like to go to a coffee shop and speak for an hour or two.

Or meet sometimes for hiking or touring around Busan.

I can help with your Korean language and you can help me with my English.

Please email me at [email protected]  and I will get back with you asap.

Thanks for your time and reading this post.. Scarlet

Re: Looking for a language exchange program or group

I would like to know of any structured groups too. Not necessarily formal classes, just groups that get together on a set schedule.  I had a group in college that was very sucessfull and we had one that lasted a few months in Gunsan also.

I speak English and Japanese and am trying to learn Korean.  I'd be interested in teaching either and having someplace to practice my Korean.

If there are no groups maybe we could start one.  Feel free to leave a message or E-mail me about your interests and what times would work the best.

Late night Wednesday and lunch or dinner on Sunday worked well for our old group, but anything can work this time arround.

My old apartment in Gunsan.  I so very miss having a place large enough to entertain a crowd of 15 or more people with ease.

Joking aside, I have no idea yet.  Likely someplace cheap to hang out, or even free.  I'm going to be doing some heavy exploring this weekend and over Chuseok.  Definatly near one of the major subway stations though.

Suggestions are always welcome.

A place that you my all want to consider is the L Zone in Kyeongsung dae.. Basically you get free one on one lessons and group lessons in return you teaching English. Plus a whole bunch of extra stuff.

A few links and articles are here.

Re: Looking for a language exchange program or group

When I looked at that it seemed they wanted us to sign up as a "teacher" with a set schedule and the other people "students" pay a good deal to hang out "learn: form us.

It might be ok, but I dont need a second "job" just a group of people to hang out with.

I might also be mistaken, but thats my impression.

Re: Looking for a language exchange program or group

Well, I "teach" there and you're right about one thing. The students do pay for their membership but that's because they don't exchange, just learn. The membership gets them any of the topic study groups (1 hr per language per day) as well as their premium study which would not be taught by you. (The premium teachers are staff, some Koreans and some NET's.)

I'm scheduled for the standard, one block of 2 hours, which is two 50 minute topic study classes. It's really easy~ the page with topic, vocab, focus sentences, discussion point is already made for you so you just walk in 5 min before, order your free beverage, and have a conversation with 1-6 students. I enjoy the conversations as well as socializing with new friends; I've met some really great people doing this. Sometimes a group of us even go out for dinner afterwards!^^

In exchange, I receive 2 hours a week of free Korean private study with either my books or some of the books they have there. If you're looking more for a group study, it would be a good place to start meeting people to exchange with. Also, you can study more than Korean there. They offer Chinese, Japanese and Spanish as well.

Yeah, I'm sure it fits for some people.  It just doesnt fit for me.

On the up side I found something better and am having a ball.   Good luck everyone, sometimes what your looking for is where you didnt expect to find it.
