need suggestions on where to purchase a pre-pay phone

I'm in Busan on my passport.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to purchase a pre-pay phone I can add minutes to?

It used to be the norm, because for foreigners to get a 'contract' used to be difficult. Now all companies provide contracts for foreigners.

The way it used to happen was that you bought the handset and then would walk into any phone shop and they would just add minutes to your phone.

This was nearly 10 years ago though, so no idea if the option even exists. If you could find a Korean speaker to go with you I guess you will find out your answer fairly quickly. Probably best to go to an 'official' shop rather than a reseller.

Little shop on the left hand side. They will sell you cheap phones and a prepaid contract. All the chinese go there, so can we. They might be the last prepaid shop in Busan."

Suggestion was "spot on."

I visited several phone stores that didn't sell pre-pay phones but this one did.

Employees were patient and helpful. Phone was only 20,000 won. Monthly plan is 4,500 won.

All shops sell Prepaid (PPS) just go there and say 선불폰. You need your ID card. If you have a gsm smart phone from your country go to KT or SK and ask for a 선불 sim card. LG U+ has cheap phones for a reason avoid them! Beware of sigining term contracts as you will have to pay through your nose if you want to cancel them!
