Best English Newspaper in Korea?

I'm curious as to what is the best english language news paper available in korea?

Thanks

Re: Best English Newspaper in Korea?

no such thing. korea times/korea herald not very informative. good for instigating challenging discussions with adult nationalistic students though.  might work for a class, but newsworthy?

BOLLOCKS

Re: Best English Newspaper in Korea?

Thanks for the quick response.

http://joongangdaily.joins.com/ is affilated with the international herald tribune? is it any good..?

it is mostly for adult class topics etc... but i also enjoy holding the paper while i read the news :) as in sunday morning, coffee, newspaper...

it seems like perhaps my assumptions about english news in korea were true :(

Re: Best English Newspaper in Korea?

Here's a thought. Why don't you read the Korea Times and Korea Herald. You can buy it if you're in Korea or you can get it online if you're not. Then you can decide for yourself which one you like.

Re: Best English Newspaper in Korea?

I agree with the other commenters on the low quality of English-language papers here, but I do prefer the Joongang Ilbo over the others. The Dong-a Ilbo is small, but when they report on something, they generally do a good job- I have heard it described as right-wing but perhaps am too politically naive to notice.

These papers seem to envision their target English audience as tourists, rather than long-term residents.  Most of the news I trust comes from other blogs and this site.

I don't know if this is a complete list; it is merely the list of bookmarks for English papers in Korea on my computer:

Herald

Times

Dong-a

Chosun

Joongang

Yonhap

To echo some of the others, none of them are what I consider "good", but the Joongang Ilbo is the best of the bunch. I get it delivered with the International Herald Tribune; I'm not sure where else to pick it up.

Re: Best English Newspaper in Korea?

Thanks again...  I haven't purchased a subscription yet, but i think Joongang Ilbo is what i will get.  I have been keeping an eye out for this version with the IHT but i cant find it... subscription might be the only option in my area.

Do you get your paper in the morning? i contacted the customer service but did not get a very good response?  is the IHT the full version or a front section type of thing?

Thanks!
