Greek Yogurt?

Does anyone know where I can find some Greek Yogurt or something similar?? Thanks!

Re: Greek Yogurt?

Re: Greek Yogurt?

My friend bought me an Easiyo yogurt maker for my bday recently and it's great! Idiot-proof, perfect yogurt every time. Another friend of mine here makes it manually on the stove, but I  could never get the temps right and ended up just dumping it.

You can order all different kinds of mix packets, including Greek. I've only tried the Natural so far, but she gave me a packet of Greek, too. I'll make it soon and let ya know. It's SO much better than that sugary crap at the marts. It's a little pricey but worth it in my opinion. Actually, compared to the prices of those dinky cartons around here, and the purity of it, it's pretty reasonable. I see on gmarket that the maker is around 40k, and the mixes 8k. Each packet makes a full kilo of thick yogurt. Hope that helps..

Re: Greek Yogurt?

Great idea, thanks! Let me know how the Greek packet you have turns out!

Re: Greek Yogurt?

if you need for recipes, denmark yogurt is the most similar one commercially.  if you want to eat directly, several options you have.

easyio or similar yogurt mixes are quite good. you can do it at your own by using milk. quite easy when you get used to. or you can visit any turkish restaurant because a greek yogurt is a turkish yogurt indeed. likewise the word yogurt. :).

Re: Greek Yogurt?

What is Greek yogurt really ? I am a yogurt fanatic myself ,put it on every food ,meat or vegetable.. first time I hear Greek yogurt.

Anyway ,its also easy to make yogurt at home ,no need to put into heater ,even covering  the container of milk which is added some yogurt as a yeast (fermentizer) cloth for  works for home made traditional yogurt

1-Boil your milk but don't let it flow over container ..you can mix it.while boiling..A few minutes let it boil

2-Take one or two spoonful of hot milk into a cup ,add your yeast yogurt to make it warmer or keep your yeasting yogurt a few hours earlier so it wont be cold

3- Wait until your milk temperature becomes 42 centrigrates (if your finger you doesnt get burned from heat itd ok) Slowly add your yeast yogurt into warm milk.

percentage must be %1-3 that means for one litre of milk you must put three spoonful of yogurt for fermenting..

containers made of earth are better but can be steel or glass too

cover your container with woolen clothes or towels wait 4 hours ..or 7 if you like lil bit sour (like me) ^_^

open clothes -wait one more hour put into fridge

fermenting yogurt must be natural ..i dont know may be you can provide it from Turkish restourant

This is my first post in forum..Nice to meet you everyone ^_^

wait one more

Re: Greek Yogurt?

About three years ago I bought a small bottle of this 5-culture yoghurt starter and had it mailed to me. I use about a liter of yoghurt a week but I still have about 1/2 the starter left. The small bottle (1 1/4 teaspoons) cost $15.

I discovered that EASYYO packages as starters were much to temperature sensative.. even using a digital thermometer, I got very inconsistant results.

Yes, you can use the small tubs of Denmark plain yoghurt for a starter, but this is MUCH easier and healthier.

The Dairyconnection starter is easy to use. I fill my sink with HOT water, put in my biggest pot with a lid, also filled with HOT water. I put a pinch of starter into a glass jar (sour marmalade jar rescued from the trash) and load in the cheapest milk with a little instant milk powder (to make it thicker), and then I put the jar into the pot, cover the sink with a folded towel and leave it for 12 hours..(the longer you leave it the more sour the taste). I always get  perfect, thick, healthy yoghurt. If you want REAL sour cream, just do the same thing with a liter of sweet cream from Costco (6,000 won). You will have SOUR cream so thick that you can stand a knife upright in it.

Re: Greek Yogurt?

You can get Greek yogurt in E-Mart at a reasonable price...I got mine in Daegu away from the center so any big E-Mart should have it~
