ATEK Presidential Debate

Wednesday, September 9, 2009 - 21:00

The Association of Teachers of English in Korea (ATEK) will be holding a live debate/discussion with the candidates for Association President.

Change of plans: This discussion will not be streamed live.  A recording will be posted soon after the discussion is finished, however.

Event Type:

Why?!?!?! - Pet Adoption

Why is it that people are on this website trying to find a loving home for their pet? I guess a better question is WHY do people on a 1 year contract feel the need to get a pet they can only keep for a short while? Because they just had to have that cute, cuddly kitten? Because they didn't want to be lonely? Why?!?! It seems so utterly stupid that now you have to give your cat or dog away.

Integrating job ad feedback

It's our first week of using the interface and someone just posted a detailed negative comment on a job ad.  My first thought, was 'uh-oh, here comes the blacklist kind of stuff - shields up!'.  In the past, we have always avoided any kind of black list postings out of concern for things getting out of hand, the challenge of maintaining some sense of civility and fairness, and potential legal concerns.  Howerver, if ever there was a time to reconsider this, it is now.

TESOL Diploma

How’s it going everybody? I’ve been thinking whether a background of ESL over a TESOL diploma is enough. Is there a significant difference between the two? Some schools can offer ESL certificates. Isn’t it enough to advance in the field of teaching? I want your opinions. Thank you.

Koreabridge 2008 Community Contribution

Part of the Koreabridge business model involves returning a significant portion of earnings to the community in the form of contributions to causes or organizations.  Based on our 2008 earnings, Koreabridge will be contriburing about US$680 (we'll call it 900,00 won) this year.  What suggestions to you have for worthwhile places to donate this money to?
