Teaching in Korea - How To Get a 2-year E-2 Visa

Most individuals coming to Korea to teach English do so on an E-2 visa. These are available to individuals from the "seven native English speaking countries" (United States, Canada, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa) who have a bachelor's degree, clean criminal background, and pass the health and drug test. While there are several hoops to jump through getting an initial E-2 Visa to come to Korea and teach, it's not the most difficult visa to obtain. Aside from meeting the basic requirements of the E-2 Visa, the most important item to have when applying is an employment contract. It is impossible to obtain an E-2 Visa without an employment contract. Many who come to Korea to teach only do so for one year. Maybe two. While many do stay longer, Korea hasn't done a great job at attracting long-term expats. Therefore, most teaching contract terms are for one year. Since the E-2 Visa is tied to the employment contract, the visa is issued for the duration of the employment contract. Although most E-2 visas are issues for one year, the visa class can be issued for a maximum of two years. All that is required to obtain a two-year E-2 Visa is an employment contract for two years. All the other visa requirements remain the same. The final decision on whether or not the E-2 Visa will be issued for two years is left up to the immigration officer. Since most university professors sign teaching contracts for two years, it is common for professors opting not to "upgrade their visas" to an E-1 to obtain a two-year E-2 visa, which is what I did. Therefore, the only thing one needs to keep in mind if wanting a two-year E-2 Visa is to sign a contract for two years and take that to immigration when renewing (or applying) for the visa. -= WEB SITES =- Twitter: http://twitter.com/qiranger Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/qiranger Instagram: http://instagr.am/qiranger Blog: http://qiranger.com The Travel and News Channel: http://youtube.com/qiranger The Vlog Channel: http://youtube.com/theqirangervlog Podcast: http://qiranger.com/tqrap TAGS: E-2 Visa,South Korea (Country),teaching in korea, esl, tefl, video, youtube, steve miller, qiranger, how long can you get a e-2 visa, teaching at a korean university
