Vegan cookies by Alien’s Day Out Bake Shop

I’m not really a Valentine’s Day type of person, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t like accepting gifts on that day. Mr. M surprised me this year with cookies from Alien’s Day Out, a vegan bakery based in Seoul.  Don’t worry if you are like us elsewhere in Korea, they also spaceship their fresh baked goodies.  Our cookies were delivered without any of them being damaged. Maybe that’s alien technology?!  Sorry I am getting carried away with the cool name of this little company.

I am not vegan but I have been curious about it for a while. I got to sample 3 of their cookies, one of which was not only vegan but also gluten-free. Mr. M thought it would be fun to let me guess the flavors.  I was excited to try them out. I quickly made tea and sampled my special treats with Mr. M.

First we tried the lemon drops, as I was drawn by these cute looking cookie bites. I took a bite and knew right away that this must be gluten-free as I have read that it is usually drier. The flavoring was deliciously lemony and after a couple bites I got use to the drier texture.

Then we tried the thin mint squares.  I don’t think anyone would be able to taste the difference between these and non-vegan ones. The chocolate and mint flavors are well-balanced and the cookies have a nice crispy texture. I think I’m in love! It was then, that I realized that I forgot to take pictures of the cookies. What a rookie mistake!

After taking some pictures, we finally tried the pumpkin cranberry oatmeal cookie. This is a softer chewy type of cookie. I normally prefer the crispy ones but the texture was so pleasant that I heart them too.  Again the flavoring was perfect and the spices in it transported me to my childhood.

I am proud to say that I was able to identify the flavorings of these cookies by just tasting them. We both agreed that out of the three our favorite is the thin mint squares. Chocolate and mint–winning! I have heard from Koreans that mint reminds them of toothpaste, so this might not be the best cookie to give to them.

In order to review them, I had to check out their website and ask Mr. M about the shopping experience. Their website looked professional, simple and easy to navigate. There aren’t too many choices but enough and makes it easy to choose from. According to Mr. M, it was easy to order, shipping was fast and arrived carefully packaged. I was surprised to learn how reasonably priced they are considering it is freshly made with quality ingredients. The price might be a bit more than Paris Baguette but definitely a lot more special with a cooler name, cuter logo and better taste. I averaged my rating with that of Mr. M and it came out to 9/10.
