Time Lapse Video of Clouds

I (Evan) love putting together time lapse projects. I just think they’re really cool. They let us see all kinds of things in our world from a new perspective. We can learn things, or just be blown away by whole cool something looks when it’s viewed at a speed far higher than we usually see. The first time lapse project I did was a sunset in the middle of Seoul. I wanted to capture how the city looks from day to night, and I thought time lapsing was the best way to show that. It was great! I hope I’ve improved since then, though.

One of our most viewed videos on our YouTube channel is another time lapse video that I made several years ago in New Mexico. It is a time lapse video of clouds floating through the New Mexico sky. The skies there are always amazing, and the time lapse video of their movements is just incredible.

I recently put together another time lapse video of clouds. This one was made with the clouds floating over Korea, of course. The skies here are very different from the skies in New Mexico, but they’re just as awesome when viewed ten to twenty times faster than reality. Check out this beautiful cloud time lapse!

For that very first time lapse video I made way back in Seoul, I used a Samsung HMX-H300 camcorder that had a built in timelapse function. It outputted a pre-sequenced video at about 720P. Later, I started using a remote & timer with an Olympus PEN E-PL2. For my first cloud timelapse, I used a Canon Vixia HFS10 that my brother owned. I’ve used our Sony RX100 for a few time lapse projects, and finally, for this could time lapse video, I used our Sony NEX 5R with the timer app from Sony. I sequenced the images in Premiere Pro, and then rendered them out for YouTube! Whew.
