The Room of One's Own

On today's episode of MTV cribs....    Okay so I know that MTV cribs would never really want to see my Korean apartment what with its lack of infinity pool and Porches in the garage, and the fact that it's no longer 2000, and I'm not in Destiny's Child.

But just in case you ever wanted to see a Korean studio apartment, or you want to play compare and contrast with my last Korean apartment, this is the blog post for you!

Things have changed a bit since I first moved in, but the basic layout of the place remained the same.  I liked the closet/desk where it is and the bed really won't fit anywhere else so some things haven't changed at all.  But with unpacking my things, and the unending supply of cute provided by Korean stores like Daiso and Book, things are looking up for my cozy (code for small) new apartment.

Not much has changed in the entry way - the white cabinet to the left is for shoes, and I also took out the removable bottom shelf so I could have room for bigger items too.  Also my hats, scarves and umbrella along with my recycling to take out sits on top.

The bathroom is pretty much the same too.  If you've never encountered a Korean bathroom before, my shower is connected to my sink and there's a drain on my bathroom floor.  It's really not that weird once you get used to it, and it makes cleaning the bathroom really easy since you can just turn on the shower head and spray the whole thing down.

On one side of the apartment is the wardrobe/library/entertainment center/living room/study/art gallery.

On the other side is my bed/couch/living room with a bedside table I made out of my suitcase.  I still haven't decided what to put on my 'beautiful' wall of butterflies and vines, so if you have any ideas let me know.

I might commit more later and put proper legs on it and make it a real table, but for now it works nicely.

Back on the other side of the room:

There is a land of cute-
with sock monkeys on my sock drawer.

And a fish that somehow got from my old job at the Children's Museum to my new apartment- imagine that. I was going to use him as a key chain, but since my front door has an awesome key pad with a secret programmable code to open the door, I don't need him in my pocket so instead he hangs out on my desk.
Once you get through the 'forest', you end up in the kitchen/laundry room/solarium.

Not much has changed in the kitchen, except for more cookery, plates, utensils, AND my awesome new garbage can.

He was too cute, I couldn't really resist him.

Now if you ever think to yourself- "Jenna, I've seen where you wash your clothes, but where do you dry them??"
Well look no further!
In the air!  I, like most teachers, don't have a dryer.  Instead I have a clothes dryer that hangs from the ceiling and can be stowed on the ceiling via pulleys when not in use.  If you want to speed up the drying process you can always turn on your underfloor heating and put your clothes on the floor and dry them that way.

Behind my 'dryer' is my new home's only window.
So the people in the building next to me can't peep into my apartment, I have a privacy screen that sits a little beyond my window and covers the lower half.
When the window is closed the glass is half frosted at the top so as to create a solid opaque layer.

So now you have seen my apartment for the next year.  It may not be as big as my last Korean apartment, but the location is much more 'happening' and I'm happy with the place.  Even though it's a 5th floor walk up and my legs aren't quite used to it yet- it is a nice little place and I'm more than pleased with it.

If by some chance you ever wanted to send me a card for my fridge or some love from home and totally make my day, (since I don't have a security guard this year, sending things to my school is best) here is my address.
