This one’s a little different.

Normally, ‘Random Pictures’ posts are for those interesting pictures that don’t make it into other posts. This time around, however, the theme of Hongdae murals works. Although I’ve covered Hongdae murals in the past, there are enough interesting – and new – murals around Hongdae to merit a new post.

It’s nice to have the arrow making it clear where he’s looking.

Psychedelic, man! If you’ve visited the Hongdae area, you probably recognize the wires on the permanent outdoor art walls.

I am in awe at the detail here.

I had no idea cats and coffee (hot chocolate?) got along so well.

If I’m understanding the Korean right, the list to the left starts with 떠든 사람 (ddeo-deun sa-ram) can mean rabblerouser, loud-mouth, or frolicker. The names mean nothing to me, however – anyone?

Looks like the cast of characters from a children’s fairy tale.

Whether more abstract or easy to understand,

Every now and then, someone asks me my favorite place in Seoul. Without hesitation I reply ‘Hongdae’, because of stuff like this. It’s artsy, a little weird, colorful, and brightens up some otherwise potentially dull areas.

To see these for yourself, start from the Hongik University station (line 2 or the Airport Express line). From line 2, start from exit8 or 9, then get away from the main road. From the Airport Express line, exit 6 or 7 will put you in a fun area.
