Old News Repackaged: Barack Obama, Eater of Dogs

Barack Obama has eaten dog, Mitt Romney ties his dog to the roof of the car on family vacations and the 2012 presidential races dredges on.

In a thoroughly undisguised dig at Master Romney, U.S. president, Barack Obama, said that he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

After quietly legalizing the consumption of horse meat last year, it comes out this week that U.S. President Barack Obama has had all sorts of things in his mouth other than a silver spoon –including dog.

Actually, though it is making the rounds in the media, it is old news and nothing the president was trying to hide. In fact, the story of eating dog is taken directly from this passage of Obama’s 2004 autobiography “Dreams of My Father.”

In the passage, speaking of his father “Lolo” the president wrote:

With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chilli peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy). Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share.

As it is an election year, this is being drudged up for fodder, but only because the Democrats took a shot at Romney after his wife said that they tie their dogto the top of the car on a family vacation.

Conservative web pundit Jim Teacher did have a good line: “Say what you want about Romney, but at least he only put a dog on the roof of his car, not the roof of his mouth.”

Ahh, the election year, sifting through the worst of it trying to find the best.
