New Play ‘Chinglish’ Heading to Broadway

David Henry Hwang‘s new play, “Chinglish,” will be coming to Broadway in the fall. The play, about an American businessman’s trials and tribulations expanding into China, is currently running at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre. It explores the burgeoning relationship between the US and China, one characterized by mutual curiosity but a tangible disconnect.

About the play, Hwang has said:

The U.S. and China are at a critical moment in history-each nation is deeply interested in, but knows very little about, the other. CHINGLISH was born from the many visits I’ve made to China over the past five or six years to witness the exciting changes there.

Hwang’s resume is chock full of his other theater accomplishments. Other plays he’s written include: “Golden Child,” “Yellow Face,” “FOB,” and “M.Butterfly,” which won a Tony Award in 1988. Here’s to hoping that his newest endeavor has just as much success!
