Links from the Week: No Queer Parade in Seoul Plaza, Human Rights Commission sponsors Jesus healing homosexuals, and more

Seoul has rejected an application to have the 2015 LGBT Parade in Seoul Plaza stating that there is already a planned event for the requested dates. However, to some it appears that there was more too it than just a problem with the date.

Byeong-gwan Jang from Solidarity for LGBT Human Rights

In activism, Byeong-gwan Jang (장병권) talked about how even if support for homosexuals is high, systemic change is still far in the distant future in a Hankyoreh interview.

Hong Seok-cheon reiterated his plans for running for Yongsan Gu county mayor, stating on Radio Star that through living in Itaewon for a good amount of time he knows what the residents want.

It has also been a week of counter protests from hate groups. On the 19th of March, groups including Holy LifeCitizens for a Healthy SocietyThe Chosen People Network participated in a ex-gay human rights forum. Kim Gyu-ho of The Chosen People Network stated that "Helping homosexuals escape from from their pain is truly human rights." Beliefs espoused at the event included things like 'Jesus healed homosexuals', and just to make it a little more difficult to swallow, it was sponsored by the Human Rights Commission.

Similarly, in response to the lesbian kiss on JTBC's Seonam Girls High School Investigators, around 100 citizens from various conservative groups, including Coalition of Parents for a Moral Next Generation (차세대바로세우기학부모연합) and Student First protested on the 20th in front of the Jungang Building stating that the scene promoted depravity and promiscuity.

In the only news story in English this week, Director Kim Jho Gwang Su gave a long interview on struggles in film making and gay activism. Definitely a good read.

In pop culture, FX star Amber mentioned how she gets a lot of love confessions from lady fans. We know you like it... On Section TV, Ji Chang-wook mentioned how a lot of his past deep kisses were with co-star Kang Ha-neul, but I unfortunately couldn't find any pictures. An article in Balkanist looks at queerness in Kpop and Turbofolk. Finally, contestant Woo-sik Park (박우식) apparently came out on Super Star K a couple of seasons back, but is back for Season 7.
