Korean Urban Legend 3: Human-faced Dog (인면견)

This urban legend is actually from Japan, but it picked up in Korea where it is now quite popular. Plus the pictures are too great for me not to talk about it! The legend holds that since the 1970's there have been several sightings of a human faced dog (In-Myeong-Gyeon - 인면견 - 人面犬, litteraly human-face-dog) around Japan and Korea. One man reportedly saw a human faced dog eating garbage, another one spotted it under a bridge, a woman said she ran over one with her car, etc, etc... The most common story however goes like this:
While walking at night in a small street of a big city, you hear a voice saying something. You look around but see no one. After a while you hear the same voice again. But there is definitely no one around. You keep looking around and then you see a dog. But one part of the dog, his face, is human and you realize it's the dog that's been talking all along. The dog the runs around the corner, you try to follow him but no matter how hard you try you never find it.
The legend might be a modern version of an old Japanese folktale which also centered around a human faced animal depicted here:

Some people also say that being reborn as a human-faced dog is a punishment for people who've led a sinful life. Here are some more pictures of the human-faced dog:

The human-faced dog has made its way into popular culture and mangas:
