KB Weddings: Mike & Susan

KB Weddings is a new series that features couples and their beautiful weddings. Whether it be a traditional Korean wedding with richly-hued hanboks, or an offbeat wedding with a quirky theme, we’d love to share your wedding with our readers! Submit here.

Dressed in festive wedding hanbok attire, Mike and Susan had a traditional Korean wedding ceremony called Taerye, or “Great Ritual,” prior to their main wedding celebration on June 11, 2011.

In true family-centered Korean tradition, Taerye is a meaninful (and carefully orchestrated) event that focuses on the union between the the two families rather than the couple. Brilliantly photographed by Jiho Park of Lily Photography, the colorful ceremony took place in Chicago’s Woo Lae Oak (a restaurant we featured on our Korean Food USA series last week).

In Korean tradition, having two wooden ducks face each other symbolizes a prosperous marriage.

The following day, Mike and Susan held their main wedding ceremony at the Old Orchard Country Club in Mt. Prospect, IL.

Thanks to Mike and Susan for sharing their wedding with us!
