KB Weddings: Ji Hwan & Linda

KB Weddings is a new series that features couples and their beautiful weddings. Whether it be a traditional Korean wedding with richly-hued hanboks, or an offbeat wedding with a quirky theme, we’d love to share your wedding with our readers! Submit here.

If we have to describe Ji Hwan and Linda’s wedding day in two words, it would be: vibrant & the Mets (yep, the baseball team). Every detail from the bouquets (orange) to the bridemaids’ dresses (blue) and the groomsmens’ ties (orange) were perfectly color-coordinated with the Mets’ official colors (Ji Hwan is admittedly a huge Mets fan).

Surrounded by a jasmine-covered trellis, beautiful California pines and the couple’s loved ones, Ji Hwan and Linda had a gorgeous outdoor ceremony at the Calamigos Equestrian in Burbank, CA, on March 19, 2011. Photographed by the talented Alice G Patterson, we think Ji Hwan and Linda’s bold wedding was definitely a home run!

How and when did you meet?

We first met at a mutual friend’s birthday party at a karaoke place in NY. It was very brief but Linda knew Ji Hwan was a lovable and goofy guy from the start and Ji Hwan was instantly attracted to Linda. It wasn’t until a couple months later that we really had a change to talk.

What was the proposal like?

The proposal was in Central Park on Bow Bridge. Ji Hwan said he wanted to go to the boathouse for lunch and Linda had never been. Being foodies, we always liked trying new things so we went. When they neared the area, he went left (when the boathouse was right) saying he just wanted to walk around for a bit. He stopped on the bridge and said he dropped something, he asked Linda to hold something he was carrying (we were on our way to return something) and she was distracted. He then got on his knee and proposed. It was on Mother’s Day 2010. Our mothers told us it was the best Mother’s Day present ever!

Linda’s father handmade the favors (all 200)—Korean masks that he had carved out of wood and he had also provided decoration for outside the reception room with his calligraphy and wood carvings.

Linda and Ji Hwan’s advice for newly-engaged couples:
Believe in each other and communicate with each other always.
