I went to a pet coffee shop five years ago, but it was more of a place that people would drop their dogs off at while they were at work and you couldn’t play with the dogs. You could just drink coffee and look at them from the other side of a fence. Thinking back, the place was pretty silly. The coffee and snacks were too sugary, and the place smelled like urine. I don’t think it’s open anymore.

Since then, I’ve been to a few cat cafes and one sheep cafe. Those were quite nice because the cats and sheep could come to you if they wanted to and then you could pet them.

We went to Bau House Dog Cafe (바우하우스 애견카페) in Hongdae, Seoul for a couple of hours. I really loved petting and hugging the dogs, but I couldn’t play with the dogs like when I go volunteer dog-walking.

The dogs at Bau House were all beautiful and the place is clean. They treat their animals well. There’s no entry fee, and a Cafri beer is 6,500₩. The dogs are greedy about treats, though. A lot of them are pretty aggressive and will bite snacks right out of your hand or dig them out of your bag, so you can’t be absentminded when you have treats. Of course, the dogs are really only interested in you when you have snacks. A lot of them will do tricks for you to get snacks, but they don’t like to stay and have a cuddle with you.
