Destination: Burlesque girls in lingerie (NSFW)

Author’s note: this post is rated NSFW – not all workspaces can handle pretty girls in lingerie. You have been warned.

Yes, I’m fascinated by burlesque. I was while living in the US, and that fascination has recently been stoked (pun, um, not intended) by the girls of Frills & Thrills. This all-expat, all-female group performed in Hongdae on Saturday, and I’m happy to say this show went far better than the previous one I attended. Let the record show that the Lady in Red not only came with me, but dressed properly for the occasion.

Club Oi features enough room (and uneven flooring) for dozens of partiers, but it was time to push them back from the dance floor to make room for the performers. With little time between performances and fewer audio announcements about who’s in each performance, my notes from the event are admittedly spotty. The pictures came out pretty good, though:

Shela Blige giving the peace sign to some lucky fan.

Without much room between performers and enthusiasts, the postures one needs to get a good picture often make for a good picture themselves.

The spinning hoop of Betty Hoop’s was spectacular – as the room was rather dark, the clothes are only now visible thanks to flash.

Because every angel has to store the lipstick somewhere.

Some lucky boy is leaving Korea, and gets serenaded by a trio of lovelies.

While the performers took a break, the dance floor crowded and gave everyone else the chance to enjoy the space.

What? Shela Blige’s wearing a tie? I hadn’t noticed until just now…

Benny Fax here – one part of a rapping group that took the stage after a lingerie contest. He did a duo with Brooke, one of the performers.

I can’t think of too many other places where I’d rather have gone on a Friday night. Besides the excellent show were some friends I hadn’t seen since I moved. That burlesque is not strictly about clothes coming off and more of a sensual act makes it all the more interesting. I look forward to seeing their next show… and the next one…
