Derek Kirk Kim’s ‘Mythomania’ is Here!

The award-winning web cartoonist and graphic novelist Derek Kirk Kim has taken on his most exciting project yet: a new web series called Mythomania. Written and directed by Kim, the story is a spin-off of Tune, his ongoing web comic series, and it follows Andy Go, an amateur cartoonist who dreams of “hitting it big,” but quickly finds his dreams clouded with rejection letters from publishing companies.

The series follows Andy and his friends as they live and draw comics. And while Tune and Mythomania share the same characters, Kim outlined the differences:

Both stories share the same characters but Andy Go and his friends go down very different paths after college in each series. So in Mythomania, you’ll also see Tony and Yumi, and eventually, Roger as well. Basically, Mythomania is Tune without the sci-fi elements. Tune is about alternate realities and Mythomania is one of them. There are superficial differences between the two worlds -– Andy wears glasses in Mythomania for example, and Tony has a different haircut, etc, but they’re the same characters.

Through Mythomania, Kim has worked his magic and brought a series to life with creative and beautiful camera work that will hopefully play out through the entire 9-episode series. On his blog, Kim expressed his gratitude and urged comic fans to give it a try: “I’ve spent most of this year so far on this, and a wonderful cast and crew worked their butts off to help me make this a reality. So I hope you’ll give it a chance. If you like my comics, there’s a good chance you’ll like this show!”
