Dear Korea #102

HAPPY PEPERO DAY!! I was tempted to do another comic about those delicious chocolate biscuits (they have new flavors now!), but I resisted the urge.

For those of you that don’t know, many businesses in Korea are usually closed on Sundays. This includes pharmacies, stationary stores, and even certain restaurants. Not too long ago, a law was passed to close big chain stores on certain Sundays to help smaller businesses compete, so even those are out from time to time.

While it’s nice to know that people are getting a break, I can’t help but get a little cranky on Sundays when I absolutely need something from a place that’s closed. To be fair, it’s usually my own fault for procrastinating until the latter half of the weekend to do things. Still, I know I’m not the only person who feels this way. A few friends and I are still cranky from the time we took the KTX up to Daejeon to hit up Costco, only to find out it was closed as soon as we arrived (dramatic tears were shed).

For those of you that are prone to getting sick after having too much fun on Saturdays, be sure to stock up on meds and painkillers the day before. Don’t learn the hard way like I did. Same goes for people (like me) who enjoy doing their grocery shopping at big stores on Sundays.
