Time for another comic! Yay! I’m currently considering doing some giveaways and/or contests to get a little more love for this comic. If I were to do such a thing, what sort of stuff would you guys want to see? Please do keep in mind that I am a very poor artist, so fancy things like iPads would probably be out of the question. Trust me, I would if I could!

I recently discovered that nationwide air raid drills aren’t exactly uncommon in South Korea. As someone who can’t exactly read Korean news sites, it’s always a bit of a surprise whenever I see/hear it happening. Though some have told me that it’s a monthly event, it only seems to happen down here where I live at random times (usually when North Korea gets a little too uppity).

The first time it happened, I was scared out of my mind. I actually had to call at least two people before I had any inclination of what was going on. I’m sure I’m not the only foreigner who has reacted this way. Well, at least I hope I’m not.

The last time it happened (just a few weeks ago), I was out for a walk. I had my headphones on and had no idea what to expect. It took me a few minutes to realize that traffic everywhere had been stopped, and anyone that was out and about had to stay where they were. It was bizarre to say in the least. Not entirely sure how people staying completely still out on the streets would help if we were attacked, but I won’t question it too much. I was mostly annoyed with the fact that I had to use the restroom, but I was stuck at a crosswalk for half an hour before being allowed to move again. I found out later that a bunch of people had received text messages alerting them about the drill. I have a Korean phone, but I never got one. I guess Korea just doesn’t love me. Insert fake crying here!

If you’re new to the country, or you happen be visiting the next time a drill goes down, don’t panic like I did! Just follow what others are doing, and you’ll be fine. That being said, panicking is completely acceptable if you see the locals doing it as well.
