Dear Korea #052

Hey everyone! I’m back! Sorry again for the absence. I’ve apparently been sick with something that’s been kicking my behind. It’s not completely gone yet, but I’m at least well enough to spit out comics, which is all that matters in the end.

Anyways, one of my favorite things about winter in Korea is all the awesome winter street food. One that always brings back happy memories is the fishy looking bread in the comic. Depending on where you are, it can either be called 잉어빵 (ingeoppang) or 붕어빵 (bungeoppang). Whatever it’s called, it’s traditionally made using a fish-shaped waffle iron-like mold. For anyone who’s worried, there’s no trace of actual fish in this snack. Batter is poured into said mold, sweet red bean paste is added, and then it is topped off with a little more batter to cover up the paste. In some variations, vendors have been known to add sweet cream instead of red bean paste. The mold is then closed, and everything is cooked into what becomes a warm, sweet treat that I could probably eat dozens of. In my opinion, the ideal fish bread is soft and almost gooey on the inside while being a little crispy on the outside. Seriously, don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it.

I hope my little rant has been enough to distract everyone from noticing the fact that I have no idea how snow works.

All this talk of this goodness is making me hungry. I think maybe it’s time to venture out for another helping. Until next time!
