Choi’s Got Talent

Sung-Bong Choi, the 22 year-old Korean contestant from Korea’s Got Talent, has shocked audiences worldwide with his heartbreaking life story and his incredible voice. The 8-minute video segment of Choi’s debut—with now over 1 million YouTube hits—is a clip that should be viewed more than once. Both of the judges, musical director Kolleen Park and Actress Song Yun-ah, are moved to tears during Choi’s performance, along with the majority of the audience.

Choi appears shy as he recalls the unbelievably brutal conditions he grew up in as an orphan: peddling gum and Bacchus drinks on the street for pocket change, and sleeping on staircases and in public restrooms for 10 years of his life. He wins us over with his humility and modesty: “I’m not a good singer,” he says. Oh, how he proves himself wrong.

Choi’s talent is truly unforgettable, and as Song Yun-ah gushes, we really just want to comfort him in our arms.
