Billboard Debuts ‘K-Pop Hot 100′ Chart

August 25 was an exciting day for K-pop with Billboard releasing their newest music chart: Billboard K-Pop Hot 100!

This week, K-pop female group Sistar was crowned number one with their new single “So Cool,” while LeeSang’s “I Turned of the TV…” came in second, and 2NE1′s “Ugly” followed at No. 3. With their rating based on digital sales and downloads made from mobile service sites, this new chart is a great way for fans to stay on top of K-pop and, more importantly, shows a movement towards integrating Korean entertainment into a more global culture.

Billboard’s Director of Charts, Silvio Pietroluongo, shares:

The launch of the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 chart is a milestone event, as it will provide the Korean music market with what we believe is Korea’s most accurate and relevant song ranking. We’re excited to be expanding Billboard’s globally recognized Hot 100 chart franchise into this country, and look forward to enhancing the K-Pop Hot 100 chart in the near future with additional data as well as creating new charts that showcase the breadth of Korean music.
