Have you noticed lately the well written posts on here claiming to be looking for 'Private Tutors"? Please be careful regarding these as they could easily have been posted by immigration officials looking to bust people. Phone them from a pay phone, email them from a secondary account and or send them resumes with fake names but do not use your phone, your email account that shows your name and definately do not send them your resume with your real name and even jobs and so on. It is better to be paranoid than busted.
When I first arrived here I never thought of this kind of thing but it does happen. Back a few years ago there was a job posted on here and when people went for the interview, they were busted. At least four or five times personally, before I had my F2-visa, I was contacted by people looking for private tutors on here and I turned them all down and at least as many times I have told people who have contacted me I have a F-visa and then they stopped emailing me.
Immigration does come on here. It just is not worth it. If you agree to meet the person, tell them you have a F-visa and use a fake name. This still may not save you and of course, in fact, the person may really want a tutor but you can never be 100% sure it is safe so when there is doubt-there is no doubt. Be safe!
People get so crabby and negative on here, sadly, I feel the need for a disclaimer:
There may be no immigration lurking on here. I have no proof. This post was intended to help those who may be new and not know things like this as it has happened in the past; for everyone else, just chalk this post up as a word to the wise or a waste of your time-whatever! Cheers!
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
It's always the other guy who gets nabbed and the the greatest excuse of all time ''It's not like I'm selling drugs'. Use that one just before you get that deported stamp.
People do get pinched Paul, just because we don't hear about it doesn't mean these happenings aren't occuring everyday.

Sad isn't it. I have lived here for years and have had friends busted and you try to help-even with a disclainer becuse i knew people would come on here and argue for the sake or arguing, and you still get that. It was an awareness post, notsohappycamper.

Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
Oh, to rebut some of your ignorant claims-my friend Rich ws deported. He had two e2 visas before but was caught at Solomon in Jangsan before his school sent him on his visa run and was booted out. There are so many stories like this. Anyone who has been here for a few years knows of stories like this. And if you do not get booted you pay a fine-ask Jarrod.
If you look for privates and immigration is on the other end kiss your butt goodbye. The sting I referred to earlier happened. You think we are protected by laws here??? Really??? Idealistically we should be but we are not. How many stories are out there of people not getting paid, fired for no reason, not getting their bonus... If immigration wants you gone you are gone-it is tht simple.
As for not getting the job I wanted, I work 8-14 hours a week and get 5 months of a year. I got the job I wanted.
I could go on and on refuting your angry claims but again, I will point out the disclaimer; which obvioulsy you decided to ignore just so you could vent. However, people, some do get deported. To think otherwise is truly dumb!
Notsohappy, your message was just angry whereas I was trying to help raise awareness for those who may not know better. Are you going to get caught doing something wrong and deported; probably not, but like I said before, better safe safe than sorry. That was the point notsohappy.
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
This is scare mongering by some cranky, greedy, nasty F2 visa holders.
I had the insightful experience of once helping out my Korean manager with hiring a part time teacher. I got some disturbingly angry hatemail from F2 holders who were convinced without reason that the manager was trying to hire someone illegally. The torrent of abuse and threats that I received was just shocking. I really have a low opinion of F2s now.
Also, you do NOT get deported for going to interviews. Many people come to Korea without a job, go to interview and organise visa sponsorship from there.
Also, I might add, if you have an E2 visa, you CAN EASILY get immigration approval for part time jobs, subject to some conditions. It is an incredibly easy process, and there's really no reason to work illegally.
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
I as an f visa holder could care less what you think of me or others because most E visa people aren't here long enough to give an experienced opinion. You don't have enough hair on your ass to judge me staying here one hockey season. Get a 5er under your belt and I might take a person more seriously.
If there is no reason to work illegally on an E2 visa then why do so many do it? Why does immigration have fulltime field agents then? and why does anyone get pinched? Do you people think you are smarter than immigration?
People get caught, if you can't even awknowledge that you have some serious growing up to do.
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
Don't you think it'd be better if we could all just try to get along a bit better? With all of this talk of "so many" people working illegally, its really just reinforcing the stereotype that we're all criminals.
Ideally I'd hope that F2 holders would be community leaders, but unfortunately I keep seeing them lash out at other teachers like they're privileged ajoshis who need to rage at the underlings to keep them in line.
That said, I have met a few F2 holders who are considerate and helpful, but unfortunately that type of person isn't too vocal on the internet.
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
You are correct TC and I shouldn't preach at you or others.
All I'm saying is that if E people choose to do privates then they had better be careful and if they ever(remotely) do get caught they should know that they either face a heavy fine or deportation and if not deportation their next visa application will probably be rejected.
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
Is 10 years enough for you LBS- are the words Crossroads, Obrien's in Gaya not Jangsan, Monk, Charlie's, OSM, Hollywood Star, Chocolate Starfish and Pusanweb good enough for you. I think you need to chill about this issue, nobody cares , but you few.Just enjoy your 5 month holidays and 14- 18 hour week jobs. Why don't you guys take out advert on TV, and on billboards." Hey, I'm and have an F visa, do you know that I'm special"! Who cares- you are in Korea- Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
I have been to one of those places; Hollywood star in somyeon ten years ago. I live in Masan..... By the way, immigration does have field agents.
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
Christ, it's like "Clash of the Egos" in here. No wonder I sympathize so much with expat females...look what they have to work with.
Guys, chill out. You're like a bunch of douchey rappers getting angry at each other for making X amount of dollars. If I were some wannabe, thugged out rap star I'd probably say "Chill baby, there's plenty of paper to go around! Don't hate the playa, hate the game" or something to that effect.
Hey, most of you probably have the hot Korean girl to go with that persona! So all is well! Try getting along. Sit down and compare pictures of your wives...or whatever it is you guys do to make yourselves feel better than the next man.
The way I see it, we're a "COMMUNITY". Which means striving for growth and a better understanding of our place in a country that is NOT OURS, helping each other out when it is warranted, offering each other deals on quality used merchandise, being SINCERE in our attempts at offering SOUND ADVICE, and NOT trying to one-up each other in some egotistical contest of better jobs, better women, and an overall popular standing in the expat community.
Live and let live, bitches. ;P LOL (excuse my very poor attempt at humor)
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
The originality of that slays me. I see what you did there, you took the "A" and replaced it with a "U", so now I'm a "Chump". I don't believe that's been done before. Such mastery of the English language. Be sure to pass that along in the next class you're teaching. LOL :P
So, elaborate, I'm a Chump because...I asked everyone to get along? Or did I hit a nerve in my (lame) attempts at humor?
Sincerely,
Solid Chump

Ha, YES! SordidChamp...
I will totally run with that in some hilarious manner.
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
so which rapper are you? Vanilla rice? biatch(my poor attempt at humor)
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
Yours works better than mine. Also, I'm far too much the geeky white boy to even begin to approach the hip-hop genre with anything but a vague understanding of the "Biggie vs Tupac" struggles of the 90's.
"Vanilla Rice" sounds suspiciously like a shot at the Asian wannabe-rappers. It's a good one...I'll be sure to use it sometime! ^^

Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
Do I detect a bruised, infantile ego retaliating for some remarks I made which may have been misinterpreted as being "inflammatory"?
I tend to communicate better with people who know how to form coherent sentences.
You go on being jealous of someone who knows how to conduct himself verbally over the interwebz. You see, in layman's terms it is what as known as "backing your shit up", which I rarely fail to do. So when I decide to make a comment on some greedy douche bags outrageous asking price, I am sure to have the ammunition to back my claims.
Naturally, common sense brings about the support of others, such as Paul, who know that when I put forth the evidence...the only thing left to do is pour it on even thicker.
But who am I even bitching to, right? I forget that the majority of people I'm dealing with all share a similar mindset.
You go on being the good Samaritan to the douche bags who enjoy ripping each other off. I mean, to hell with common sense and reason, right? Why should anyone in the expat community be willing to extend a courtesy to their fellow man?

"Critic of eNglisgghee -I think you should stick to your day job as a comedian."
Journalist, but whatever...same difference. I've got an odd sense of humor that doesn't translate for everyone. Now that you mention it, maybe I'll try my hand at a bit of stand-up.
"I'll be honest, your ravings about that 3D TV are a joke."
Are they? Was I really so off-base? Did I not have a couple of other gents come in and confirm the point I was trying to make? Is it so wrong that I probably saved an unsuspecting buyer from a bogus deal?
But whatever, I get it. I made it my business to correct someone on their claims of a "reasonable asking price", when I really had no business commenting at all. That's not an invalid criticism...just a tired one.
Immature, that is fine- it takes one to know one. Whoever cut the cheese, dealt it. Nah ,ah, na , anal, nah, nah ,anah.( childish enuf for u)To be honest, your pathetic efforts just amuse me. .Sorry, I'm not investing, "I'm out", as they say on the Dragon's Den. Get knotted
In response to this, I'm thinking that perhaps you should...I mean, I...it's a little bit...wait, what!?!?
And um, a CHEERIO to you too, then! Happy New Year and all that.
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
Notsohappy, no matter what I say you just want to argue. I do not get that. I am this or that??? Who ever talks about losing jobs to e2 visas and I never mentioned my visa status in the original post. I am sticking to what I said there. It was a simple post reminding people that immigration is around and do bust people. Can you not get that?
Going off and saying immigration does not come on here or bust people (or do not have people who go into schools which they do) , when I personally know people who have been, is ridiculus. Maybe you need to chill and let the first post absorb in as it was pretty clear. It has nothing to do with visa status, money, personalities...it was a post for people to be careful-all people. Why is that so hard to understand?
My last post on this. You guys can run this into the ground. It is so sad that the original post I even put a disclaimer on there yet this still happens. My first post was pretty clear. If you do not want to be careful then so be it. That is your choice. Just be careful/smart people. Good luck.
PS Having a F2 visa does not make it legal to do privates so the argument that this post was directed at e2 visas and was trying to scare them is absurd. Everyone needs to be careful-especially when getting privates off of here. You have no idea who is on the other end so be careful. Amazing I can not say that without some bizarre backlash but I guess that is life on here. Good luck.
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
I, for one, welcome the advice. I was eying some of those ads with suspicion, because some of them just didn't feel right. The way they read is somewhat "off". Not saying that people should stay away, or that there's some national conspiracy to nab foreigners looking to pick up private work...but Paul is right in that it DOES pay to be cautious. His disclaimer was pretty black & white, and I see no reason why anyone should have overlooked that. It's absolutely absurd that some of you blatantly chose to ignore it.
Like I said, shouldn't you guys be arguing about whose chick is hotter, or the consistency of Cass draft, or something to that effect? Are you really going to pick a fight over ESL jobs (not that there aren't plenty to go around) and the dangers of immigration...or lack there of?
There is no level of nonsense that the good people of the Koreabridge are above, it would seem.
Re: Be Careful People-Immigration May Be Lurking
LBS, Paul, and Camper should all meet up and have an epic fistfight. Or just make out. What's up with all this man-tension? E-thug for life?
I come here for facts and information but mostly I get you guys raging up the forum with your petty name calling and ad hominem. Seriously? You guys lose at interweb.
