I have heard stories, anecdotal mostly, how even the scent of coffee can cause one great need to have a poo. Does this happen to you? Because, I also read recently that one of the sneaky causes of constipation can be drinking too much coffee.

Here are some coffee shops in Korea that have English that may raise an eyebrow or two, causing several heads to be scratched in the process.

Do you know what I drank this morning? Coffee. And then, I had coffee.

Here are some more “not just coffee” entries. Whether it’s a bakery, dessert cafe, or even an eyeglass shop (or, an excellent flower shop), it seems everyone thinks they need to have coffee in the mix if they want to survive. That includes…

One friend commented on my mission to log “All the Coffee in Korea” as trying to count every grain of sand on the beach. Actually, he said this would be harder.

Diving with Sharks in Busan

Korea may not be at the top of your list for scuba diving destinations, but you have to learn somewhere! I recently had my first experience scuba diving, and it was a long time coming. Can you believe that I went backpacking around Southeast Asia for 5 months and have never been scuba diving?? Me either. But it’s pretty expensive, and my other half sinks more than he swims.

The Busan aquarium in Haeundae allows Aquatic Frontier, a PADI 5 star dive center located in Osan, to lead dives for the uncertified in the large shark tank. It’s a great chance to experience scuba diving before paying a large sum of money for the PADI certification course. Me and my friend Kate have been talking about doing the shark dive for a year, and the day finally came with a lot of nervous excitement.

Na-neun Coffee. Or, in English,
Na-neun Coffee. Or, in English, “I am coffee.” Located on the way to Gwanganli Beach, this independent coffee shop has a warm interior, coffee academy classes and a lot of bean varieties.

Gnarly Dude: A paddleboard lesson in Busan!

I walked to the back of the shop to meet Dylan, my Korean surf guru for the day. When the general greetings were out the way, Dylan pulled out his phone, stared at the screen, and behind a grimace he said, “I checked the weather. The water is totally flat. Not good for surfing. Do you want to try stand-up paddle boarding?” I had no idea what paddle boarding was, but it sounded cool.

Plan B

Dylan led me upstairs and out onto the roof of his shop, where I somehow managed to cram my fat arse into a skintight wetsuit… only after putting it on backwards twice! Dylan’s tanned muscular body meant he looked like a Korean adonis in his, whereas I resembled vanilla ice cream dripping from a plastic carrier bag.
