I'm a Rocket, Man!

The Fourth of July is not only the holiday I almost share my Birthday with, but also my favorite summer holiday.  Since you don't get the day off of work for another country's Independence Day, we decided to teach the kids about the Fourth and America.

While trying to do some planning for the lesson, I was looking at Pinterest for some craft and/or activity ideas and came upon this awesome activity.   It had a lot of things going for it:  it was cute and interesting (+1),  it was easy enough that I didn't have to make them all myself (+5),  it took a lot of time (+10), and it used things I already had either at home or at school so I didn't have to buy anything special for it (+100).  Plus, even after we were all finished and the confetti was cleaned up they wanted to do it all over again (+1000).

Busan’s Trick Eye Museum

Books On Optical Illusion

The only thing which Koreans love more than taking pictures is having their picture taken. So I shouldn’t have been surprised to find in Busan an entire museum dedicated to the art of posing for funny photos. But still… I was surprised. The Trick Eye Museum, underneath the Heosimcheong Spa, is one of the most bizarre places we’ve been in a long time.

Be a Part of Art: Hongdae's Trick Eye Museum

Seoul is a city for art lovers. From sculpture gardens to galleries, the city is full of cultural spaces dedicated to all things artsy. Hongdae is a neighborhood particularly known for its art scene, with many of its residents being design students at Hongik University. All the others no doubt appreciate the vibrant murals, street performers, and interesting exhibits that are ever-present within the demarcation of the area.

New Postcard Series

After that trip to the Korea Design Museum, I was inspired to make some new works. I took away the red outline from some of the postcards I saw and went with it. The first one there just going from my imagination then having a swell time creating the vibrant red border.

South American Flair in Gamcheon

Our Travel Books

A trip to the Gamcheon Culture Village was one of the stranger excursions we’ve undertaken during our time in South Korea. This neighborhood in the west of Busan has dedicated itself to art, with murals, sculptures and installations that occupy entire houses. Visitors are taken on a tour which snakes through narrow alleys and ends at an observation deck with an amazing view over the city.

Gettin' Arty at the Gamcheon Culture Village

View of Gamcheon Culture Village, Busan, Korea

I was sitting in Busan one day naively thinking I'd seen it all, when this wonderful city surprised me with something new yet again. At the suggestion of a friend, my boyfriend and I made our way to the Gamcheon Culture Village, a picturesque art-adorned village perched high atop a hill overlooking the city and the sea.
