Ran the Yangsan Half Marathon today in 1:36:24! Not sure what I’m most excited about: my time, my shiny new medal, or the carton of raw eggs I received in my finisher’s goodie bag. #onlyinKorea

The Ulsan Human Rights 10K

This morning I completed my first ever officical 10 kilometer race! Based on the name of the event, the purpose of the run was to raise awareness of some sort for human rights issues…but since all the literature and speeches were in Korean I have no clue beyond that. The point is, I did it!

The whole thing was organized really well. From tents where you could check your bags or extra layers, to well-marked signs and people telling you which way to go, to plenty of water stands along the way, they thought of everything and more, just like I would expect from a race back home. Best of all, though, was the jazzercise/group stretching session that we had before the start, which consisted of everyone grapevining, clapping and lunging all in perfect Korean unison (apparently this is a standard part of any race day in the country!).

Color Me Rad Korea!

At the weekend we took part in a Color Me Rad run in Seoul. It was a lot of fun! The event was held in Seoul Olympic Sports Complex. As it was extremely busy there was not a chance to run, it was more of a fun walk but this was okay with me. At various points of the course colour tunnels were set up. The first colour was orange, then pink, blue and yellow. As you walked through a group of volunteers threw coloured powder all over you!  The atmosphere of the event was fantastic. Everybody was having a lot of fun and were very happy to be covered in so much colour! To participate in the race the sign up fee was 35,000 won. This included a t-shirt and a pair of sunglasses. There were also a lot of freebies to be had at the end of the race. Everybody got their own colour powder pouch(s), wet wipes and vitamin water(s).  It was a very messy experience but I am glad we did it!

Half Marathon

At the finish line!

We did it!!! On Sunday David and I completed a half marathon. We participated in the Yeongdeok marathon. There were a variety of running courses available. We signed up for our preferred run via the internet. We heard about it after participating in the Daegu marathon where they handed out flyers advertising it.

The 22nd Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Marathon!

Galmaetgil Trails 갈매길

Layout 1

The Galmaetgil trails span across Busan, about half of them wind along the extensive coastline, giving them the name “Seagull Path” in Hangeul. They explore all the best that this wonderful city of ours has to offer, the whole shebang covers around 270km, so where to start? Here’s your super awesome and helpful guide to help you out in this tricky conundrum.

Course Two: The most popular course among the locals, and the most ‘famous’ according to Busanites.

The shortest course end to end.

Galmaetgil Course Two: Part 2 –Gwangalli Beach to Oryukdo

By Laura Teague

imageThis is definitely a walk to test your hamstrings and calves. It’s a nice flat 3km away from Gwangalli beach around the coast, and then a grueling 5km of stairs up and down all the way to Oryukdo Cruise Wharf.

Continuing on from where Part 1 finished, this walk starts on Gwangalli Beach.

track stars…..

Every morning as I sit at the window, sipping on my coffee, I reflect on the deeper meanings in life. Sometimes I stare off into the great unknown and think…..”is that exhaust smoke or a…OH LORD JESUS!!! its a…..*cough, hmm…sorry, I digress. That was my ode to Sweet Brown..completely irrelevant but i’m such a sucker for autotune ….(click here) ;)

Triathlon

Greetings, I'm trying to find a race directory for triathon races  in the Busan area.  If you can suggest a race directory site that would be awesome!

Also, a training partner would be great. If you're interested in training for a tri, let me know!

Cheers,

M
