The Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk 2015

gonguptap (11 of 11)The Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk is always my favorite time of the year. It is an event that gets photographers from all over the world to come together for a day a photography and for a really good cause. In my mind, this is one of the best events and not simply because I lead one every year. I say that it is the best because they are not only making the lives of children better but also making a great experience all around.

Put 7 Photographers on a Tiny Island in South Korea and This is the Result

Nothing is better than an island getaway with friends, especially when those friends are all excellent photographers. Last week I headed out with some of the best photographers in the area to the tiny island of Somaemuldo. This island is located near Tongyeong but really is isolated from everything. People come to fish (I think??) and just to get away from it all.

2014 Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk

group

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of once again hosting the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk. I decided to change the location to Gyeongju this year as I thought that it would appeal to more people than having it in Ulsan. My assumption was correct and we had over 20 people show up. It was a great turn out for a great day of shooting.

Peter DeMarco on Photo Contests

Let’s face it, the idea of winning a photo contest and getting a the top prize is pretty tempting. They are designed that way or else no one would enter. You get the feeling of satisfaction that your photo was chosen over all the others and you get a nice chunk of change for your hard work. What could be better than that?

CNN Travel Love

cnn

Recently, CNN published an article written by the legendary Peter DeMarco. The article was delayed a bit due to the ferry accident however, it went live last week and it was a nice surprise. I have to really thank Peter for writing such a great article and getting us even more exposure for our work.

Gyeongju Photo Walk

IMG_3775

A while ago, I lead a photo walk in the beautiful city of Gyeongju. This was one of my favourite photo walks that I have been on recently. Aside from the horrible traffic that made me extremely late, which is bad when you are the host and the only one who knows where to go. At any rate, the weather was great and we started our walk beginning with the tombs around Daeureungwon and then into Daereunwon itself.

Peter DeMarco’s 2nd Solo Exhibition

IMG_8276-Edit-Edit

Recently,  I had the pleasure of being at the opening of Peter DeMarco’s 2nd solo exhibition titled “The Nomad Within: The Wonders of Asia”. I regretfully missed his first one but being as this exhibition is Ulsan, I had no excuses.

Rooftopping in Ulsan

Thanks to Peter DeMarco, I realized that I have missed a few buildings on my previous list and that I should update my rooftopping list for Ulsan. Now before I get into that let me first talk a little bit about how to do this, so that I don’t a get message saying that you are locked on a roof or you are locked in the back of a police car.

Precautions

First, remember that you are going to areas that the building security might not want you to be. So with that in mind, enter at your own risk. Second, be aware of locked doors and doors that only have an inside handle. The best thing to do is prop the door open when you enter the roof top area. That way you will always have an exit.

Photographing the Busan Fireworks Festival 2012 Pt.1

So the big day is coming up down here and there has been a lot of talk about where the best place to shoot is, what time to start, where to go etc.  PeterDeMarco has offered up some great information on the subject over on the Busan Lightstalkers page and I thought I would add some details in to help those who are thinking about going.

When to go

the whole event starts this Friday at 3 pm with a street parade. The K-pop concert will follow at 7. However the fireworks don’t start until Saturday. Now, according to the site there will be a “Fireworks Concert” starting the countdown to the fireworks.
