Coffee With Character, Part 3

As promised, I've continued the search for Seoul's best themed cafes. I am happy to report that my most recent finds include a diverse mix of polar bears, bananas, puppies, and cupcakes that will make you scream... with delight. So, without further ado, I give you Coffee with Character, Part Three.

Banana Tree (Sinsa-dong, see map. Closed Sundays.)

Tucked away on an obscure street in upscale Sinsa-dong is Banana Tree, a charming cafe inspired by, well, bananas. Instead of 'going bananas' with the theme, Banana Tree uses hues of yellow and banana decor- a door prop here, an ornament there- in a subtle fashion to incorporate the concept.

Be a Part of Art: Hongdae's Trick Eye Museum

Seoul is a city for art lovers. From sculpture gardens to galleries, the city is full of cultural spaces dedicated to all things artsy. Hongdae is a neighborhood particularly known for its art scene, with many of its residents being design students at Hongik University. All the others no doubt appreciate the vibrant murals, street performers, and interesting exhibits that are ever-present within the demarcation of the area.

Jenny's Bread & Hongdae's Streets

As you might have gathered by now I spent a good amount of time in Hongdae recently, and instead of posting everything in one shot I'm breaking things up. In this post, I'm going to take you to one of my favorite lunch spots, Jenny's Bread. I have been to this place several times, and you can catch a 2010 post here and a 2011 post here.

Alternative Space Loop: Contemporary Art Space in Hongdae

With a name like "Alternative Space LOOP" and a location tucked in one of the neighborhood streets of Hongdae, I couldn't help but be enticed to visit. It was a little tricky to find (directions at the end of the post), but with a bit of map viewing beforehand I was able to find my way.

<EXIT> Social Underground #4

Date:
Saturday, May 5, 2012 - 23:00

Social Underground is back at Exit for another round of electronic shenanigans. Lewis Anthony and Raico will at the controls all night long to provide a soundtrack that will not only move your body, but your mind and soul.

Exit once again provides the perfect setting. There's no luxurious VIP area, no outrageous drink prices, no dress code, and certainly no cover. This is a party about the music and the music only!

For directions, click here.
