Morning Calm and Night Fantastic

Morning Calm and Night Fantastic

Morning calm is a great experience anytime of year, but in January when the lights are on it is out of this world.

More than 1 million lights illuminate the whole garden, it seems an equal number of people too so do go early.

Colours, Colours, Colours! A Good Vibes Post for My First Two Weeks Back in Ireland.

I’ve been back in Ireland for approximately two weeks. I promise that during this post I will not mention the weather too much. All I can say is that it has been unseasonal.

When we return to Ireland we spend most of time in my parents home and my old stomping ground, Beechdale in Dunboyne. At the best of times it’s a fairly ordinary housing estate on the outskirts of Dublin, albeit in County Meath. We also managed to get down to Kerry for a few days, to show the visitors around (the visitors being Herself’s oul pair who are over here with us).

Well, we’ve been doing plenty of touristing around here (yes there are some things worth doing) and also down in Kerry. It has been a good few weeks.

Indoor Greenery

Making messes…I am so good at it.

We have our little window garden that just grows almost like weeds even though I really don’t want to jinx it. I have been wanting to make it better. Improve the hardware so to speak. So, after searching Pinterest (yes again) I decided to make these:

An herb garden with a great view

Living in a studio apartment (one room here in Korea) calls for desperate measures if you want to have a garden. I can enviously see from our window the homes below with full blown veggie gardens growing on roofs. Unfortunately, I have been limited to a few herbs I have found at the store or have been given.

I have a little rosemary, some basil, some strawberries (which aren’t growing at all) and 2 things of coriander which I believe is also cilantro.

The rosemary will not grow…it is a little brown and a little green…

The basil grows somewhat and I have already used it a few times when cooking.

The coriander has finally started to grow.

The strawberries…nada. (maybe it is the wrong season.

Cupcakes & Coffee @ Sky Garden, Hyundai.

I've been to my local Hyundai Department Store more times than I care to imagine and no doubt many more times than I should have been. At least that's what my purse would tell you. In all these times I'd never known about one fantastic little secret it holds. Tucked away on the roof is a garden, or rather 'Sky Garden' as they call it. It was a complete surprise to me. It's a beautiful space where you can enjoy some outdoor air away from the chaos of the store and city. There's a strange phenomenon that I've observed a few times before, when your right in the heart of a busy city, slightly quieter spaces seem to take on a heightened sense of tranquility. Here it feels like you're a million miles away from the bustling basement grocery store and the snooty looks of the middle aged women browsing the designer rails.

Destination: the Garden of Morning Calm (Cheongpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do)

Sometimes, the pictures don’t do a place justice.

This was the verdict of the Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원 – a-chim go-yo su-mok-won) – a beautiful place on a beautiful day had more awesome than my camera could handle.

Professor Han Sang-kyung at Sahmyook University first conceived the garden as a world-famous Korean garden. The oldest privately-owned Korean garden in the country, the inspiration comes from an Indian poet that described Korea during the Qing dynasty as the “Land of the Morning Calm”.

Destination: Orchid Garden / Exhibition Hall (Mokpo, Jeollanam-do)

If you're exploring Mokpo for any length of time, Yudalsan will show up on your list of places to see. The mountain area is a centerpiece of town - and there's plenty to keep you busy for at least a couple of days. The 228-meter-high isn't an overly difficult climb Although the Lady in Red and I didn't have a lot of time, we discovered the Orchid Garden / Exhibition Hall not far from the Sculpture Park on the mountainside.

It's far from a popular tourist destination, however. Get up to the garden and enjoy the views, almost entirely to yourself:
