This Week Out There – May 11th – 17th

A selection of this week’s expat-related stories

The Wide World: Traveling Outside Korea

I made a calendar before I left for my winter vacation. Littered with notes in the margins about confirming flights, double checking bus schedules, and detailing directions to hostel addresses, I mapped out a two week excursion to three very different places: Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. Sitting at my desk at school, looking at the creased page full of travel details, I couldn’t wrap my mind around what those two weeks would be like. And, as I sit here again behind my desk in South Korea, I can’t fathom how those two weeks held so many memorable miles, random bruises, pale misty mornings, blazing noon heatwaves, and cheap, delicious street food. My short time traveling over those two weeks took me on an incredible journey that felt like it spanned two months. Here’s some highlights of it.

Sari Organik Restaurant... a must see in Ubud!

I would never normally do an entire blog post about a restaurant, but holy schmolies... this place NEEDS it's own blog post!  Thanks to Lonely Planet, we navigated through 20 minutes of paths leading through rice fields to this gem of a restaurant, set right smack dab in the middle of rice fields as far as the eye can see in every direction!

Happy Nyepi.... sshhh, be quiet and don't leave!

Happy Nyepi everyone!

Getting the Shot 10: Garuda

The Shot - I bet you are wondering where in Korea this giant bird is…. well it is not really in Korea. I know but my justification for putting on the blog is that a) enough Koreans head to here (Bali) that it does feel like you haven’t left Korea at times and b) I wanted to show a quick lesson on HDR and black and white conversion within Photmatix as well as some sharpening styles.
