Makgeolli Day 2014 & Insadong Festival

This time of year is a busy one for the makgeolli and traditional liquor industry, with a number of festivals and events being held all over the country.   The last Thursday of every October is also Makgeolli Day!  This is a day dedicated to celebrating not just the drink itself, but all the hardworking brewers, industry professionals, and the fabulous fans of drinking our favorite brew.

Registration for October 18th Meeting Open!!!

We have a hankering to go old school for the next meeting! The thing about the no-frills locations is that they usually only serve something in the way of Seoul Makgeolli, so we trawled Naver for an appropriate location that also serves at least one non-aspartame option.geondae gul jeon

Registration for September 6th Meeting Open!!

It’s amazing what can turn up when trawling Naver for new makgeolli places to try.  We stumbled apon this small (very small) but very white little makgeolli bar in Sindorim that seems to be serving up some interesting gems.  On the menu we spy a Meshil Wonju, as well as a host of the usual favorites including non-aspartame staples.

Registration for August 16th Meeting Open!!

The location for this meeting has been on the books for over a year!!  We tried to visit last year but it was unexpectedly closed and we just haven’t tried since.  Helen’s Kitchen has a very good reputation for its makgeolli, food and atmosphere and it’s located not far from Coex near Samsung Station.  From what we have heard, Helen spent her early years in growing up in the US and after working for a multinational company decided to open a makgeolli bar.
